Advance notice – Bonanzle links will very soon ‘redirect’ to Bonanza

Hi everyone – this is a quick advance notice that late tomorrow evening we will implement the address/URL redirect so all Bonanzle.com URLs will redirect automatically to their corresponding Bonanza.com URLs.  This includes all pages on the site like your items, your booth, and, of course, the Bonanza homepage.  For example, www.bonanzle.com/mybooth will seamlessly send the visitor to www.bonanza.com/mybooth.

What do you need to do?
Right away?  Nothing.  Eventually it would be nice if you changed any site or blog links to the new URL as this is better for search engine ranking, but nothing will break.  Your old Bonanzle.com links will simply redirect to the new ones.

How long will the redirect work?
Indefinitely.  There is no time table to turn it off so links to Bonanzle will continue to redirect automatically for a long time.

    Thanks Alex – It is indeed nice and refreshing to have advance notice so one can prepare if need be and/or give management a heads up as to why x idea is not a good one…. etc… (coupon available) – Bill can tell ya ’bout that one… Anyhoo..
    Thanks for the notice and update. Is there any QA? staging this to test on a server before hititng the big shiny switch or?… you never know what will be impacted where….

    When I click on one of my items I find on Google it takes me to Bonanzle. Will those redirect too? I noticed that all of my items on google have Bonanzle on them.

    @ yeshuazgirl – we’ve done some testing on our end, but redirects like this are typically a quick read. They either just work or they don’t. Bill is going to keep a close eye on this.

    @gran12345 – yep, Google links will redirect too. Any link will. Even one you manually type into your browser (as Bonanzle) will redirect to Bonanza.

    This is great, but what about the folks that don’t check forum posts. Are you all going to be able to generate a site wide email to all members?

    Just a thought.

    Also… does this mean I dont have to reprogram my google checkout?

    I do think an email should go out to all members since only a % comes to the forum and not all of them read the blog

    they also need to be told to change their google checkout callback and their google anyalytics settings

    and yes, we have been told both of these things HAVE to be done

    Just a thought regarding the discussion about notifying all members. Maybe you could post a note that there are new blog entries under the Bonanza Announcements section on everyone’s My Bonanza page. At least that way we would be aware that there is a new blog post and can come check it out for details.
