Background Burner Available from Listing Form

Today marks the launch of Background Burner:  Reloaded.  With this second version of the Background Burner, we have increased our burn accuracy from 70% to about 90%.  Given its improved (and still improving) quality, we've decided it is ready to step out from the shadows, and we've added it to our item listing form.  You'll now see the burn option available beneath any image you've uploaded.

With picture quality of such paramount importance in earning clicks through Google and Bing Product Search, we strongly believe that the Background Burner is an idea whose time has come.  Before now, to get an Amazon-style white background, one had to either purchase expensive photo studio equipment, learn to use Photoshop, or pay professionals to remove your background for you.  With the Background Burner, small merchants are empowered to get their own studio-quality pictures, minus all the fancy camera & lighting tricks.

Whereas existing picture outsource services charge about $3-5/picture (depending on difficulty), Bonanza's Background Burner prices are

Full details about the whos and whats of the Burner are available here.

The FAQ includes details on how you can frame your pictures to maximize the quality of your Background Burns.  Also: apologies if Background Burns take longer than their usual 10-20 seconds today.  We have a new supercharged server en route to handle the burns, but in the meantime there may be a bit of a queue that forms during busy times of day.  Thanks for your patience as we await the cavalry.

Great idea for those who need assistance with their photos. The price may be too high for many people! Can’t wait to see the results and hear the feedback from those who use it.

Sounds FANTASTIC! I like it! ♥
Just a note to Sellers out there…You 1st Picture (the one being picked up by Google) is “preferred” size of 400 px square.

AND…it sure would be super duper NICE if people here on Bonanza would CROP their pictures so we could use them in our hand picked list! Also, it is nice for the buyer browsing your booth to see the WHOLE picture before they click on it.

Image backgrounds tremble in fear.

“…we have increased our burn accuracy from 70% to about 90%.”

I’ve used the beta version a few times, thought it was pretty awesome!
This version sounds even better, can’t wait to try it!

I do like it, but will probably rarely use it. The reason being is that it is too expensive. The burner was cheaper for members in round one of having a go at the burner, right? I did not mind it too much then but at .49 cents a pop (it adds up) I will not be able to use it except for when totally necessary.

I would think it would be better to price it more reasonable so that the service would get used more. I realize I get a better deal with a bundle but still…

It is a cool tool though.

Glad I have photoshop! Sounds like a good deal tho for those who don’t!

MONTROSE says: 05/10/12 at 19:41:14

It’s fine if someone decides to pay to use it.

Maybe you can have a “back burner Rush” sale once a month for those seeking a reduction in price? LOL

Again, it’s just an “option” for anyone to use, if you choose.

Good luck to those that do!

The idea of “one day burn sales” is actually a very intriguing one…although anyone can always get a low price when they buy bundles. Still, we might well use that idea

There are about 3 pages of images already on my “Background burner” page, NONE of which are mine. I try to delete them, but they don’t leave.

There are a number of them that don’t even HAVE a delete option, and at least one is totally inappropriate and, frankly, crude!

What do I have to do to get rid of these pictures?!

bharding says in response: 05/11/12 at 10:57:15

Hey Glitter,

Thanks for the report! Those offensive images must have been Marks It’s now fixed.

I agree with Tip Top, just a mite expensive. I have almost 500 listings and at least 4-6 pictures on each listing. At .49 per pic for 2to3K pics is something I would never be able to afford. I think as long as Bonz isn’t going to lose money on it they should make the cost better to encourage people to use it.

So, a background burner is a background remover?? I won’t ever need it.

pinchrosemary says: 05/11/12 at 05:04:32

Nice product. Price point, not so nice

Laboutiquefrancais says: 05/11/12 at 05:22:50

Anything that would improve the quality of pictures would IMO improve sales = profits for all involved. The fact that the site is charging for these services is counter productive.

CritterCreekRanch says: 05/11/12 at 06:06:28

since I have to figure in cost of taking pictures (cost of camera, cost of batteries, and of course the cost of my time doing all this I cant see paying additional prices but some may want to pay the fees to make there pics pretty, however that cost will have to be passed off to the buyer so I really do not want to increase my prices to make up for the cost, the cost of gas/shipping/shipping packing supplies are a must to be figured in already with my items so I cant increase anymore .. I am just thinking of the buyer because I am a buyer too, this cost has to be passed off somewhere and it will be the buyers who will have to pay for it in the long run jmho

CoinsYouWant says: 05/11/12 at 06:38:02

I don’t understand this feature at all ???

KhangaBoutique says: 05/11/12 at 10:43:18

It was fine the old way (i think), why did they have to bring this in? Revenue generator? If it is for advertising (which would be great, god knows we need it)why dont just collect a $1.00 from everyone and do an advertising blitz? I must be missing something here. I wont use it.

pacificarising says: 05/11/12 at 12:20:03

Maybe I’m missing something.. but why would an ‘Unregistered User’ need any listing devices at all? I mean, is there even such a thing as an Unregistered User?

Also, not to be a wet blanket but I don’t get why people would pay for this when most computers come equipped with Preview Tools that already do this. I doubt that I’ll use it (whether it was free or not) but shouldn’t paid members get this for free?

Just a thought.

HOABobbies says: 05/11/12 at 17:05:57

I think it’s great for those who wish to use & pay for it.

I also found it funny when I tried it to see how it worked I got this message…“It looks like your image already has a pretty clean background. We can’t do a whole lot to improve on it.”

Too funny!

Oh and agree, what’s up with the “unregistered users”?

cshort0319 says: 05/12/12 at 12:32:34

I commented in a thread, but I’ll take the liberty of repeating and elaborating here.

I mostly like my backgrounds, even though they may not do anything for any of you. The reason I like them is that, with background, the person viewing my listing can see the item is really truly mine, and like the photograph.

Sure, I could improve the pictures; I can erase blotches and scratches on the items themselves. I can darken or lighten the color, but “I’yam what I am,” and so are my pictures.

I’ve really been put off on Photoshopping or burning backgrounds since I took a course on digital photography. The teacher spent one solid 3 hour session showing us how you can insert items or people into your pictures. He used one of his own as an example. He had inserted a dead grandmother into a wedding picture! Gave me the creeps.

I was all excited trying it, until the price came up. Yikes! However, I don’t expect you to give it to us for free… good for you for developing it, and it’s a valuable service that we should pay for. I think at 10 cents a picture, you could make a boatload of money. Then maybe don’t make the bundle package so elaborate… in the long run, you would still make a lot. Just saying….
