To the other cowgirls…After I graduated HS, I got a job, and since I was still living at home, I bought a horse for $300. I didn’t tell my parents (I was over 18) and I boarded it out. My friend bought a horse too. Her mom met my mom in the grocery store and told my mom her daughter bought a horse because I had one. My mom said “What horse?”

What do I want to be when I grow up? Still trying to decide!

HotAttic What Horse?

I got a horse and boarded it 4 blocks away. Mom figured my smell was from working on the ranch or farms. I would disappear like I usual and out of the blue, my mom was at the barn entrance looking at me and the horse. Asked where the horse came from and I told her I bought it and have been paying for the board. She reamed my secondary parents (spent a lot of time with them, but not related) Mom took me down to the bank and I got my first checking account in 7th or 8th grade, so I didn’t have to bother my secondary parents to write the checks.

I wanted to be a teacher, interior designer, and then a CPA. Never wanted to have children. I have a degree in Accounting and have worked as a Tax Advisor. I have 5 great kids and am able to stay home.

A nun, a teacher, a doctor (till I couldn’t dissect a frog!), Peach Corps volunteer, back to wanting to be a teacher, married with children. That’s all when I was under 21.

Ended up in chronological order, a teacher, stay-at-home married mom, research analyst, journalist, social worker, City Clerk/Tourism Director, Health Education/researcher (got my Master’s Degree in Public Health at the age of 59) — and, after retirement, Office for the Aging Director for Medicare. Somewhere along the way, I decided also to involve myself in internet selling.

Maybe at some point, I’ll settle down………but I have to tell you, I have enjoyed every one of these careers.

I wanted to be a Veterinarian OR a Truck driver, I grew up on a livestock farm and took all the Veterinary Science courses in 4H, and worked with a Veterinarian for a few summers (under supervision I even did a spay on a dog once!), read all those wonderful James Herriott veterinary books, and took Biology, etc in HS till our lovely Guidance Counselor just killed my dream by pointing out that my grades werent good enough for a scholarship and my parents , nor I could never afford college (It was far different back then as far as Student loans).

Sooo….I became a Truck and Bus driver and travelled far from the farm here in IN. and saw a lot of this great country and met some wonderful people over the miles and years.

I loved it (and would still be driving today if not for my back problems and arthritis) but, I still wonder what it would have been like to be a Veterinarian though.

I haven’t decided yet. I may go my entire life without being able to answer that question.

First, I wanted to be a nurse, than a teacher. Also, thought about joining the Peace Corps. Instead, I got married, had 4 daughters and worked parttime in an office. Now my girls are all grown, I have had cancer twice and on disability because of my neuropathy and depression. I guess we never know what path our lives will take.

I had four interests growing up: gymnastics, figure skating, playing the piano, and playing the violin. I would have been able to pursue at least the last two had we not moved from Missouri to Texas when I was just starting 4th grade. I already had my violin, which I had to give back to the school with tears when it came time to move three weeks into the school year.

As for the other two, I was already a speed demon on wheels at the roller skating rink, but never got to learn any tricks. Gymnastics I was learning from a school friend who was taking gymnastics. We couldn’t afford to get me in them at the time, but I would have been great, being a natural-born athlete.

Now, my body is seriously out of shape and I’m losing my hearing. So now what? LOL I guess I could try to get my foot in the door at SETI since I love learning about the Cosmos. Yeah, like that would ever happen. LOL

@Trublu…was awesome, however, I have only been on one cruise in which a camera crew came and produced a show..and I doubt you saw that one, since was a PBS show called SEARCH…

The ALVIN carries 3 people, 2 scientists and the pilot…in all those years (since 1964) there has only been 1 woman pilot (Dr. Cindy Van Dover). The first woman to dive on ALVIN was Dr. Ruth Turner.

When on the ship the PI’s (Principle Investigators) schedule the dives and who is going….My dive was with Dr. Elana Leithold and our pilot was Cindy Van Dover.

It was not until we were actually sitting on the bottom of the ocean and realize…“Hey it’s all girls in here today…sure does make it easier to go pee..now”…LOL

When we surfaced about 7hrs later others had also realized and it went out over the news..and then there were reporters at the dock when we got back to San Diego about a week later…

So, it actually, just happened!

Dive log for that day

It’s amazing how far most of us are now from our “chosen path” in high school or college! I wanted to be a teacher when I was little, then a doctor, now I’m in business. Where will life take me next?

I dunno Cindy It coulda been. What? Dont you think I watch PBS?? LOLOLOL Heck, I watch Blues Clues, Clifford, Martha Speaks and Caillou nearly everyday

Seriously though i just LOVE watching all those undersea type shows, the shipwreck stuff and all that just intrigue me. That and the fact that we know ohhh so little about that alien world right here under our very own oceans. Amazing. I am truly envious.

I do remember that they said how small and cramped that dude was. I seem to recall a deep water submersible that the pilot laid on their stomach too “drive”,is that one like that??

Kinda cool about that just happening. To be a part of history! WOW!! Cool Beanz!

I wanted to be a school teacher, but I married young and then had 2 kids and then at age 30 started assembling GM trucks and cars. So I am enjoying retirement from that. And of course would of never dreamed of being at a place called Bonanza even a few years ago! This Oct., I will have been here 4 years. woo hoo.

I wanted to be an English Literature/History Teacher and football coach. Fractured neck in my senior year eliminated college football. Eventually became a State Trooper/Criminal Investigator, and coached Small Fry Football for 10 seasons. I loved my career so I got to do everything I wished for. My players became Physicians, Special Ed Teachers, Law Enforcent Officers, Corrections Officers, Child Protective Personnel and all around outstanding citizens.
I have been blessed and who could wish for more ?
