I’ve had my PayPal payments held from sales on here. I just got out of PayPal jail a few weeks ago after a 6 month sentence. My crime (or at least what I assume was the reason)? Taking out money immediately from my PayPal account after getting paid.

I’m a new seller and they haven’t held my funds or imposed any limits on me like they were going to do over there.

@Fredimous.. Wow. That’s good to know.

@ Fredimous… WOW, your funds were withheld for 6 months just because you took your money out right away? Was it a new PayPal account or have you had it a while?

Anyone no of this? Is there a waiting period to withdraw funds?

Posted by fredimous, Woodburn, OR. 183 total posts | Posted about 1 year ago

No no, not held for 6 months. I was put on the 21 day hold for about 6 months. I still got my money a few days after (most of the time) the item was confirmed as delivered. And it would switch from hold, no hold, hold, no hold seemingly randomly during those times. I’m still expecting to be placed back on it, but so far it’s been a few weeks.

The money withdraw conclusion is just my assumption. It actually just so happened very close to the time that I received a neutral rating on eBay, so I can’t rule that out.. except for they started the 21 day hold 2 days BEFORE I got that neutral

Had perfect feedback and a decent DSR score otherwise. No other issues that I was aware of.

I have had the PayPal account for about 10 years. I do sell “high-risk” items (video games), but PayPal didn’t have a problem with that for the 6 months previous to the hold when I started selling seriously. I also kept money in the PayPal account for a while, then transferred the large chunks to my bank account. Once I heard that they make interest off of it, I started withdrawing immediately.

So, the only thing I can come up with was that I started taking my funds out immediately once paid, and shortly after that the hold was triggered.

I can see why that would trigger a hold to make sure you’re not a “take the money and run” seller.

I’ve never had any money held from PP here – been here for a while. If PP holds any money, it will be from their actions, not bonanza. So, No Worries

Yeah… may it’s related to it being ebay??? I haven’t heard any stories of this happening to anyone here at Bonanza.

Suggestion: let your PP balance build to a certain target number, say, $500. Consider $500 (or whatever) to be “zero.”

Withdraw to your bank amounts in excess of $500.00, so that the least amount of your balance is $500.00. So, when your balance gets to $800, then take out $300.00.

Using this method, I have had no PP problems whatsoever.

What I do is I will let the money sit in my PP account until the Delivery Confirmation shows up as delivered. Have always worked well over the years. Then after your item shows up as delivered I will go ahead and transfer the money.

I can only speak from my own experience, but Ive never had any funds held at PP.Theyve always been available immediately

Ive pulled $$ immediately after purchases, Ive also run my account down to the point of it drawing funds to cover a purchase from my linked in checking account and seldom keep more than $200 in it at any given time.

Ive no idea why they would hold it, but Im just chiming in that Ive never had any issues, and the circumstances that were discussed that may be the problem havent ever seemed to cause any problems for me.

I guess My solution would be to just call PP. Ive called a few times for different reasons and ALWAYS gotten freindly and correct help there.

I never had my funds held but then again I have always had a balance. I Treat it as a business account I do not withdraw every time someone buys, so there is nothing to cover that payment. When someone purchases from you that money is not actually yours until the customer is satisfied which is a least 21 or more days by PayPal standards.

The actual amount of days that someone can file a claim with PayPal is 45 days.

jsgeare – Yes, I did have it up in the hundreds and close to a thousand, but I decided to just transfer it all since I don’t particularly care for them. The only reason I use them is because 1/3 of my customers do.

And I guess they would consider me a “take the money and run seller” as history has no bearing on PayPal whatsoever. I have sold items for many years, although not as seriously as the past year or so. Like I wrote before I was selling pretty well on eBay for the 6 months previous to the hold without any problems at all.

And their hold was BEFORE my neutral. That’s the kicker.

Although from what people are writing, if you don’t use eBay at all and just Bonanza, you probably won’t have a hold triggered on you. I did, probably eBay related (when I started selling on here about 7 months ago I completely stopped selling on eBay).

My payments from here were held, just as if I made the sale from eBay. Made no difference to PayPal. I did email them, and they agreed with me but told me to call. I tried calling and was put on hold for my whole break from work so I gave up that option.

This is why I provide a discount if someone pays me through Google! Seems a lot easier, less headaches, quicker (and automatically instant) transfers, and is a trusted name.

Paypal can and does do random holds whenever they want and for what ever reason. I’ve had my PP funds held when I started selling on a new ID at ebay. Only happened once and was a low priced item and not high risk. Not a new ebay or PP user either, just a new selling ID. Go figure…..

I have never had any money held by PP, never ever any problems with them. I have had my PP account for at least 10 years!

I shop, pay bills, anything I want with my PP debit card! Love it!

Paypal hold funds to make interest off it. I would not trust them with my money and if you want to make a business work, forget it. They can hold money for 6 months if they wish even though it is illegal. They recently lost a lawsuit because of this but they are still doing it. They are basically criminals. I think it is necessary for people to know what they are up to and to stop relying on them as the ‘safe’ way to shop and sell. Paypal were supposed to make commerce safer but now the rogues are neither buyer or seller but the Paypal mediators. That is bad for all. We have to ask ourselves now if Paypal is really worth it anymore. Of course there are rogue sellers and buyers but has Paypal always helped the victims here? I am starting to think that good old fashioned trust between real people (instead of bots) involving bank transfers is the way to go.

paypal is very easy to reach by phone.
a person speaks English (as a first language) and can look into any issues/problems encountered with them immediately.

jsgeare, I am not sure what your reasoning is behind keeping so much money in your paypal account is, but why let them earn the interest off your money? If I had that kind of money to leave in an account I’d rather be the one earning the interest off the money and not paypal.

That being said I have not had an holds on my account, or had any other problems so can’t answer the op’s question. But apparently someone has had their funds held from sales here.

Paypal has helped me as a seller twice….once on this site and once on the other site. They were timely, investigated each situation, and found in my favor both times.

As stated above I called them each time. True fraudelent behavior and deception is not tolerated by them.

Depending on sales volume or item prices $500 might not be so huge a cushion to keep. Also, by using the debit card for purchases one does get a little bit back. More than $500 in the bank would earn. I think the point was to keep what your average sales are for 2-3 weeks. It sounds like if you hold a reserve voluntarily they don’t force hold it for you, and you have it for an emergency.

I just got off the phone with PP and I was told there would be a 21day hold. Is there any other options out there besides PP & Amazon we can use here for checkout that’ll be ease for customers to make payments?

Did they give you a reason?

Very frustrating at times.

I have never had my funds held by PP but then again, I leave a balance there. Why? First of all I use the funds to pay shipping costs for items paid for with GCO, CBA, MO, etc. Secondly, I use my PP funds for my purchases on line.

Regarding JSGeare’s comment about leaving a balance, I happen to agree. I know many of you are concerned with lost interest, but let’s take an honest look at the situation. I just searched and the average interest being earned on a checking account is 0.23%. If you were to leave $500 sitting with PP for one year, the interest you would lose is $1.15. If you left $100 sitting with PP, your lost interest would be 23 cents. In a Year!!!!! And remember you’d have to pay tax on that earned interest, so your net loss is really only $0.83 for a $500 balance or $0.17 for a $100 balance.

Face it, many if not most banks require some sort of minimum balance to avoid fees or to earn interest in the first place.

But you might say, if everyone did this, those pennies would really add up. This may be true, but trust me that’s not how PP is making their money.

AND, isn’t the $1 “lost” worth it when the possible alternative is the headache of having your funds held? Just food for thought.

Money Orders, USPS money orders. No Third Party getting a piece of the action and making money off of your money. PP is notorious for holding money so they can deposit it into interest bearing accounts, they’ve been doing it for years. Thus the 180 day holds if you manage to really tick them off!! Yes, they can get away with it as we have no banking rules to speak of in this country. Remember, the banks don’t need no stinkin’ rules and regulations, they can manage themselves. And if you are Chase, you can also lose 2 billion and survive it and take your golden parachute with you when they fire you or ask you to resign.

It all stinks.
