This new speed of shipping rating system will be a scammer’s heaven for those who take checks, who have a Paypal payment ‘pending’ because Paypal tells the buyer not to ship until e-check clears, to those who make customized orders on demand, to those who drop-ship and cannot rely on their supplier to ship immediately, to those who – heaven forfend – work or maybe sleep, who do not have post offices that are open 24/7.

I don’t really think that was ever the intent, was it? WAS IT?

The exceptional circumstances noted (waiting for check to clear, custom made, drop-ship, etc.) all pose problems.

But Bonz has said they will keep such transactions out of the calculation IF the seller requests it.

Thus, for any seller who has such issues, simply notify support immediately, identifying the transaction and the reason for they delay. It’s an extra step, but if you do it as part of the item processing, it shouldn’t take too long.

If Bonz finds it difficult to keep up with many such requests, they may decide to change the system. It appears that this is the only option, for now.

That means I would have to email support after nearly every order from my 4 booths ??? Nope not on I am afraid. That is just ridiculous from a business point of view.

Its like I have to ask permission or something.

I will just keep doing what I am doing – and skip the whole process and keep notifying buyers like I do now.

JS, with all due respect, that’s really not an acceptable solution, and an unnecessary extra step for us as sellers.

I think this shipping time is nonsense as there are too many factors involved to make a good conclusion on how a persons shipping rates.also about 2 weeks ago the USPS published an update on the closing of post offices and times open.some have been shut down come September and others have had there days and hours cut back, some that were open 6 dyas are now only open 3-4 and some that were open 8 hours a day are now only open 2-3 hours.and if they decide all will be closed on saturday.so this is gong to affect shipping big time.

I got an order around 11pm or so last night. Good thing I got up at 1:40 am so I could “ship” it before the 4 hour window .

Did you have a post office open at that time of night? Lucky you.

The solution only applies to those who want the rating to accurately reflect (as much as it can, anyway) how quickly a seller dispatches an order. If a seller is really not bothered by the rating system, then no need to do anything.

Requesting an intervention from support may not be acceptable to some, I know. I can’t say as I like it much, myself. But it is the only solution available, unless the system itself is changed.

Also, bear in mind that the days and hours of the post office need not pose a real problem, and here is why:

Let’s say you get an order Friday evening – Post Office is closed. You are looking at a 3 day weekend, so you won’t be able to physically ship until sometime Tuesday. But you CAN print the label right away, and date it for next Tuesday. Bonz calculates your “speed” based on when you enter the label info, NOT when you actually ship. Thus, even though you are really NOT “Zippy,” (for good reason) Bonz will say you ARE. Problem solved.

This does not compute? What 4 hour window? No one needs to ship within 4 hours.
So much confusion.
So much stress and misconception

Please return to page 1 and read what mom’s wrote The item relisted on it’s own during a glitch

Now that’s absurd, that’s the kind of stuff that needs to be worked on so it Never happens. I had to go through my whole booth to see what else I forgot to delete other than the order I just got for something I no longer had listed. I found 5 more just like that. Deleted in the past, resurfaced without being seen until someone buys it cause its not available anywhere else. Cause its no longer manufactured! Those so called glitches are unacceptable in any business.
Paypal does not like me giving refunds, buyers are mad cause bonanza lists something then seller takes the blame cause merchandise is not available.
Glitches are ruining reputations, causing enough stress without being graded on how fast we can find bonanza’s mistakes.

I cannot print labels either – so that doesn’t help me.

I won’t be doing anything different – because there isn’t any option to do so.

Has anyone seen the actual breakdown of the ratings with regard to time requirements? I’m trying to find it and didn’t see it in the blog.

For instance:
Zippy: ships within ___ hours/days
Quick: ships within ___ hours/days
Medium: ships within ___ hours/days
Gradual: ships within ___ hours/days

Maybe I just missed it, but I know previous to the re-set, we could see the requirements when we hovered over the rating…plus I’m wondering if it was adjusted.
Thanks~

I will post this on the blog too if it’s not already closed.

@j.s. And hopefully the buyer doesn’t use tracking and realize it really was shipped Tuesday, despite what the shipping notification said. A problem may very well still exist.

Well, sheepish, that’s one of the problems with this new system. It has NOTHING to do with shipping speed. It measures only how quickly you put in the tracking code. Of course, most buyers are well aware of the holidays, weekends, post office closed, etc. But even so, it is a good idea to shoot a note to your customer: “All packed and ready to go, when post office opens again on Tuesday.”

I went to a booth today and it states under the seller’s shipping options: Ships in ONE Business day.

Wow, that’s great, I’m really interested in this item.

But then, wait a minute…. on the right side is this big GRADUAL showing under average handling time: May take a week to ship.

So which is it? One day or a week to ship?

This is a real booth here, the seller is good, ships fast, plenty of good feedback. So how does this contradiction help a buyer to feel more secure purchasing on Bonz? It doesn’t…………………… :(

Just my unhappy 2 cents.

@iluvmypet Indeed! The system is flawed… the seller MAY ship in one day BUT forget to mark it as such… causing them to look bad when in reality they’re doing exactly as they promised.

I just entered tracking for 4 packages.

The first one was for a sale on Saturday. Looks like there is no allowance set yet for weekend sales yet.

I do not purchase shipping online, so I cannot post tracking numbers ahead of time. All packages are walked into the post office.

It says I am medium for that Saturday sale-shipping time was listed as 2 days, 2 hours, 39 minutes and 50 seconds.

The other 3 sales occurred Sunday and Monday morning.
Shipping times:
0 days, 22 hours, 43 minutes and 45 seconds
0 days, 18 hours, 28 minutes and 16 seconds
0 days, 10 hours, 50 minutes and 11 seconds

Shipping time is listed as Zippy on the above three sales.

3 Zippy + 1 Medium = Quick

I put in my preferences “Ships in three days” to allow for weekends, but Bonz doesn’t give you that break.

Well, I am going to add my 2 cents worth. I guess I believe in being totally honest and upfront with my business ethics and that includes shipping. If I get an order during the day after 5:00 pm and I process that order (including purchasing a shipping label}, I am not going to go and add the tracking number to my Bonanza booth or anywhere else until I have actually shipped the item out. To me, I would feel that I was being dishonest when the parcel has not actuallly been shipped. When the item is shipped, then I notify the customer with the tracking number and add tracking number to Bonanza.

I too have “ship in 3 days or less” and that is the way it will stay, even though I ship usually within hours or 1 day unless it is over the weekend. It just depends on when the sale came in.

I guess the shipping issue does not bother me. I am more concerned that we need buyers to our booths as well as buyers coming to Bonanza and as of late, I have not see much of either.

I’m like you, Lace. I don’t like to enter the shipping info until the package has actually been sent. Of course, there were a couple/few times where I didn’t enter the tracking on Bonz right away, but I do usually get it entered on PayPal pretty quick so at least the customer is notified.

I guess I won’t be hesitating any longer to get that info entered. As a matter of fact, I guess I’m going to have to start entering something like “Order received and being processed” in the shipping line until the package gets sent.

The reason being is because I’m not going to allow myself to be penalized for doing business as usual. Shipping within 1-3 business days is the norm and customers shouldn’t be led to believe anything else. It is impossible to get every order out the same or even next business day, especially when you’re relying on a warehouse to ship your items.

Fortunately, my suppliers are pretty quick about shipping. They ship within the same time frame as I do. I wouldn’t be using them as a supplier if they didn’t. However, if something is ordered on Thursday, it could be Monday or Tuesday before the package is actually sent. That’s 4-5 days, subtract two of those days for the weekend, and it’s still 2-3 business days.

Yet this new rating system doesn’t allow for weekends and holidays. It doesn’t allow for any of the usual things that would hold up shipping — some of those things being perfectly normal for an eStore on Bonz (ie, waiting for checks and MOs to clear, custom orders, made to order items, etc.).

Yes, I know we can contact management to have them tweak our rating, but we shouldn’t have to do that. One, some of us don’t have time to mess with it every time we get an order. Two, we shouldn’t have to worry about having some inaccurate rating appearing on our listings, possibly costing us sales, for any period of time.

Sales have been picking up for me (got my first international order), which I’m happy about, of course; particularly after a long dry spell. So I do not want this new rating system jacking with progress. I have to wonder how many sales I lost while having that gradual rating appearing on my listings.

I also have to wonder how many times I have to worry about Bonz doing something that’s going to cost me customers and sales. Why can’t the programming team focus on the existing problems that we refer to as glitches? These glitches are entirely fixable, yet are left unattended while they cost sellers much-needed business.

These grade school rating systems are unnecessary, a waste of space and time, and serve no good purpose, especially since they’re inaccurate. Quite frankly, my boyfriend and I are looking into what it would cost to get a professional site done for me so I can have complete control over my business, how it’s presented, and how it’s conducted.

No more stupid rating systems that cost us sales. No more glitches that cost us sales. No more programming errors caused by unnecessary changes that cost us time and sales. No more worrying about unnecessary changes that would cost us sales. Of course, problems could arise with having my own website, but I could live with that over the rest any day.

I agree purpleiris.

Here’s my workaround and, yes, it involves a bit more unnecessary work on my part. I’ve never used tracking for inexpensive packages so would put only the date shipped in the “mark as shipped” box.

From now on I will put in the date it WILL ship and contact the buyer in a separate message with any relevant tracking information and also let buyers know that the message they get from Bonanza is the date the item will ship.

These systems remind me of elementary school when one kid acted up everyone had to stay after school. Selling sites should deal with the problem sellers and leave everyone else alone. It isn’t just Bonanza … these systems are all over the internet and I’m tired of it. Just want to sell and buy and ignore the rest.

We can edit the shipping info after it’s been entered. So you could always just do that and put the tracking info there.

True, but I do like to inform the buyer as soon as possible about shipping and anything else they need to know. The personal touch has paid off for me over the years. I don’t mind spending time with individual customers, but I do mind taking up time running through hoops on the selling sites.

I, too, agree with you. It shouldn’t be about gaming the response; it should be about really truly good service.

I’m with you, Carolyn. I feel like I’m having to game the system (and my customers) just to keep my business from being damaged by some inaccurate rating system — and all because not everything gets shipped within 4 hours.

I really don’t see how this rating system is going to provide any valuable info with many gaming the system to keep from being wrongfully branded a seller who provides only mediocre or poor customer service. I sure as heck don’t want to be forced into accepting an inaccurate rating for simply doing business as I should.

Yep, this is just another one of those things that we could do without — as individual sellers, a selling venue, and a community.

It’s a stretch, but one may say, strictly speaking, that the system doesn’t say it measures time to shipping. It measures “handling” time. So I suppose that once you begin to process the order (of which printing out a shipping label is one aspect), you are then “handling” the order.

Which might mean that a seller could enter “order received, will ship in 3 days” (or something like that) instead of a tracking number, which may be entered later (edit the tracking number field). This would allow the seller to be both honest and to get a zippy rating: you “honestly” did begin handling very quickly, even though the actual shipment won’t occur until later. This assumes, of course, that one may enter something other than a tracking number in the tracking number field – I have not tried to use it as a message field.

Would this resolve the problem?

Here is my other 2 cents worth. I feel so inadequate compared to jsgeare. I love reading his responses.

I finally got a nice order last night on Bonanza. Thank you God! I processed the order. Purchased the shipping label and I mailed the package this morning. I went into Bonanza and added the tracking number. Now they show me as zippy. You click on to “zippy” and it actually shows when the order was placed and the actual turnaround time from start to finish.11 hours, 18 minutes, 32 seconds. Can you believe that???? We are being treated like kindergarten children. I for one am not liking this at all. Rather scary when you really set back and think about it. Please Bonanza, you need to rethink some of this. It puts us as sellers under a lot of pressure and with all that is going on with many of us, added stress is something we do not need now. Almost like our government is doing. Big Brother Is Watching YOU!!!!
