I’m curious if anyone here has ever closed their ebay store? If so, any thoughts or opinions on how it went or tips you learned or anything you would do different? Ms Bijoux Beads |

I closed mine in March 2008, and I’ve never bought or sold on eBay since. I don’t make enough sales here for this to be my sole income, but I do not miss the frustrations and anxiety of eB dealings. This is the only site I’ve been on since late 08, and I wouldn’t do anything differently. I know a lot of people say ’don’t put your eggs in one basket’, but I disagree, for me. I don’t have the time or inclination to run from site to site, adding listings, fixing and updating stuff. I feel that if you list the same stuff all over the place, there’s no reason for buyers to move to a new site, if they are already reg’d at the main sites. So, for everyone who wants to leave the bay, but still lists there, and wonders why their other venues don’t get results; I think it’s a no-brainer. My opinion only, ymmv. I haven’t closed mine, I just barely use it unless it’s something I feel will sell better on the Bay. |

I stopped selling there as well due to profits being gobbled up by fees. A little slow here but you cannot beat the Bonanza “family” for assistance & support. Happy sales to you!:) ~ Nay's Treasures ~ |

Closed mine in April 2011. Sales got to a point that I wasn’t making a profit, then I started noticing I was getting pushed further and further down on Best Match, even though I had really almost perfect ratings. It was a very difficult decision to make, agonized over it for many months; this was mainly due to the fact that I had been on the bay for so long (started back in the late 90’s). I still do occasionally buy and sell on the bay; but not very often. Yes when I came here my stress and anxiety disappeared and feel more at home and with friends here. The support at Bonanza is great as are all my Bonz buddies. I tend to agree with Bookbin, yes some have said that you need to not put all your eggs in one basket. Well, I have never fully subscribed to that theory. Seems to me that you would drive yourself crazy having a bunch of stores to check on everyday. Also the thing with having the same thing on multiple sites, some search engines will not allow it. And if you only have the item available at 1 site, it will entice your buyer to come to only that site to find you. This is just my honest opinion. |

I had been on eBay since 1998. I left for good in January of 2010 and never looked back. The first 6 or 7 years I loved it and then day by day it got worse and much worse! yeoldjewelryshoppe's booth |

I closed my ebay store in April 2011 and I have no regrets at all. I’m so glad that I found bonanza. Even after I started receiving the TRS discount, it was pretty much all getting taken in revolving fees. When I sat down to do my taxes after the second year on ebay, I realized how ridiculous it was to stay there, given that I am just a small home business and do not sell high price items. Every once in a while I will do a few auctions over there, but they never turn out real well. I haven’t listed anything over there since January because it is just not worth it for me. I wait a little longer inbetween sales here, but it is FUN to sell here, and more profitable in the long run. As others have said, I do not have the time or desire at this point in life to manage more than one site. I’m doing okay with just bonanza, and fairly happy with how sales are picking up here. I strongly believe that bonanza is going to take off more and more as people find out about it. I really didn’t know about it until I “read between the lines” on an ebay seller forum 16 months ago and determined to find out what was meant by “The Ranch.” I did my research, and here I am. No advertising was necessary. A Child's Treasure Place |

yeoldjewelryshoppe, Sounds like we started there about the same time. I will agree with your on your experience was about the same as mine. achildtreasureplace, I had the same shock when I did my taxes. I have also had experienced the same with the auctions as you, they just never turn out that well, and lot of my profit was going to the revolving door fees. I also will agree that it may be a little longer in between sales, but if you are able to keep more of your money I would say it is worth it. |

I haven’t sold on ebay in a long, long time. I can’t justify selling there anymore. If I get inventory for free then I would sell there but I have to pay for my items and therefore can’t sell them for profit. I do still purchase things there though. BM Enterprise at Bonanza |

No plans to leave Ebay. I use a simple spreadsheet to calculate my selling costs and profit. It generally works out better to sell used items there under our family ID as new merchandise pricing is too competitive. Under our family ID, we see nice profit margins on used items (typically antiques and collectibles). Haven’t sold too much there under our business ID because we’ve just started, but our margins are still okay (23%-25%) So, no plans to leave Ebay. |

Thanks for the input everyone. I’m still on the fence whether to close my store and just do the 50 listings a month. I have two accounts, one for beads and one for misc. I have a loyal customer base there and am not sure how to keep them. suescollectiblesaw makes some good points and like she did, I’m agonizing a bit over this Ms Bijoux Beads |

Ebay is our main selling point. We sell far more there than any of our other sites, even though we make the prices higher there to compensate for the fees. So we will not be closing there any time soon We are UK based, and that may be part of it as there is little to challenge ebay from a number of buyers point of view Graphskill Nuts & Bolts |

msbijoux, If you have a loyal following over on the ’Bay then I would suggest NOT closing your store right away and instead taking a little while to transition. You can inform your customers that you’re moving to Bonanza via notes in their eBay packages, at the end of their PayPal shipping notices and by their PP email addresses. Offer slightly lower prices here (accomodated by the lower fees) to entice wary buyers to choose this venue over eBay. Once you have decent traffic in your Bonanza booth (however you define that) then close up shop on eBay. Sparkle Motion |

I stopped selling on feeBay over a year ago, but I haven’t closed my account. I use them for research—to see if what an item similar to mine sold for (or not). I couldn’t put up with the hoops they made sellers jump through any more. Bonanza is a breath of fresh air. I sell on three other venues at the same time, but I aways list different things—I don’t list the same things on multiple sites. RosaInGlousta's booth |

Have been successfully selling on the Bay for 10+ years, have weathered all the ups & downs there & have been able to make it work for me. I haven’t had a store there in years,I just take advantage of the 50 free listings per month plus all the free listing days they have, which work great for me. I am able to sell my items much easier on the Bay & more often than not I get higher prices there, so despite any fees, I still make good profit. Sales for me here on Bonanza have been few & far between, so I definitely have no plans to leave the Bay.I love Bonanza for what it is but it just doesn’t give me much for sales. I love the atmosphere but still have to list there as well to try and get people here. I have been there since 1998. Have seen alot of changes of the years to say the least. I tell people all about here, but it is still hard to break the ebay mentality as most everyone I talk with has never heard of Bonanza. Maybe I can create a few converts along the way andto increase sales. |

Sorry for the double entry my internet had a hiccup while I was commenting. I have been thinking of ways to do more to get the word out here. I still do the free listing days plus any package that leaves here also has the bonanza name on the outside. |

mrsvandy1001 and TheBidKitty – This is what I’m thinking too, the 50 listings a month. I also love the atmosphere here and have had a few sales. I thought summer would be a good time to transition or think about it. Hoppyeshopper – my sales seem to be there also but I want them here! ; ) Ms Bijoux Beads |

Perhaps I was being too nice in my past comment. I’ll bottom line it. If you are profit and volume oriented, you would do well to keep your account on Ebay. Coming over to Bonanza with 100% of your inventory and expecting a steady pace of sales may result in disappointment for you. It seems like it takes a good bit of time to establish a customer base here. I would recommend keeping both accounts to see how things go. Seems like a toss up for most folks. I’m not a “touchy/feely/Ebay is abusing me” kind of guy. We are gettting ready to post tons more items here and under our Ebay ID, and Ebay sales will easily outpace our Bonanza sales, which have been nil so far. Anyway, the price of doing business here is very affordable, and we like the people here, so we will be around for a while. Eventually, though, no sales=not worth the time, so we’ll have to wait and see. |

That’s what I had to do. 100% of my items are here, but I double list a few of them on eBay. Thanks to eBay’s unjust act it did to my business a month ago, I only list a few items there because I know its going to take time to build a base here. Even though I brought some buyers with me, its amazing how many loyal followers eBay has brainwashed into sticking with them EggPlaster Anime |
