But then… I just heard a story about a woman who shipped an expensive doll, and the buyer said when she got it it was some raggedy old junk doll, and she sent the seller a picture of a raggedy junk doll, and paypal refunded the buyer. The seller acted in good faith, and it was either a scam or someone along the line swapped out the dolls.

There is always risk when you are selling items to people you don’t know, who don’t live close enough to you that they can come to your brick and mortar store to buy.

Brick and mortar stores have their bounced checks, overdrawn charge accounts, shoplifters, returns made on damaged goods that might or might not have occurred prior to purchase. If you are a farmer, raise chickens, cattle or other live stock, if you sell fish or shellfish, you always have the possibility of something going wrong.

This is funny but not in a good way.

I’m dealing with this EXACT issue but in this case I’M the buyer.

I may be off a day or two but here’s what happened.

I have cats that require a certain supplement to their diet to stay healthy.

I found a seller here that sells that supplement in tablet form and for a really good price compared to what I’ve paid in the past. Went in, bought and paid for the item on the 1st of August.

2-3 days went by and I received NO word from the seller that they’d shipped or even gotten the order. I sent them a bmail.

Heard back from them the next day that they had sent the order to their shipping department and it had been mailed out.
(I’m already scared thinking that by that sentence I’m dealing with a drop shipper which I avoid like the plague)

So another 3-4 days go by and no package shows up. Seller is in Florida, I’m in Oregon. Should only take about 4 days from them to me.

So I contact them again, asking for tracking info. Not one word from them to me with any kind of response.

Wait another day or so, and like I said, I may have the time frame off here. Then send them what’s going towards a bit of a nasty note demanding tracking info. Again another day and not a word from them.

I finally go to PayPal and open up an “item not received” claim, and like “magic” they come up with tracking that says they didn’t even print a label out till like the 13th Grrrrr

So, then I start checking on the tracking.

Yesterday it shows online that my package was delivered.

YAAAY, and I go rushing to the PO as I really need this stuff.

At our post office, if you have a PO BOx and get a package to big to fit, they have these “parcel lockers” and they leave a key with a number to one of the parcel lockers that are bigger and put your package in them till you get to your PO box and get it out with the key.

I’m already thinking something’s wrong when I open my PO box and see a key for one of the parcel lockers. This is JUST a regular size bottle with what most folks think of as a diet supplement tablet. It should not have to be put in a parcel locker but whatever.

So I get the key, go to the right parcel locker and open it up. Here’s a huge package, one of those flat rate boxes that are a bit on the flat side.

I’m thinking, “No way in he__ is this the pills”

I go outside and get in my car, open the box and it’s a mold I bought off a seller at Ebay.

So I come back here, double check to make sure I put the right tracking number in for the package I’m looking for and I had and it says it’s delivered.

Since the seller FINALLY produced a tracking number, PayPal closed the claim.
BUT now I’m madder than he__ and I call PayPal to bit__ about this closed case.

Took dang near a half hour on hold but finally got a real person on the line. Explained the situation and she didn’t even hesitate. She just refunded my money. I’ve been with PayPal for like 8 years and not really to many problems.

Came BACK here and left really nasty feedback for that seller.

They contacted me and said they were going to open an investigation into it as they are still swearing that they mailed the package.

Although they lied about when they did it. They didn’t mail it out for almost a week after I’d paid for it.

It’s really en eye-opener when we look at the frustration a buyer can experience, isn’t it?

We know as sellers how we feel, but once you’ve had a bad experience as a buyer, you sometimes come to understand ‘the flip side of the coin,’ as radio commentator Paul Harvey used to say.

Sooo,
Today, I go to the post office. Both tracking numbers in hand. One for the package I DID get and the one for the package I DIDN’T get.

The postal clerk took my paper with the two tracking numbers on it and went into the back. He was gone for quite some time.

When he cam back, he had two forms in his hand. They were claims to start an investigation into what happened. He said that there WERE two packages scanned into their system for me yesterday. The one that I DID get was scanned in 10 minutes before the one that’s missing.

He asked me if there were two packages in the parcel locker. I looked at him like he was an idiot and then he clarifyed himself in asking if I’d gotten the one package from the PO box or a parcel locker.

I told him it was in a parcel locker and there was just one package.

So that’s where I’m at now. Got my money back from PP but don’t have a package or any answers as to what black hole the package that seller supposedly sent, dropped into.

In the meantime, Rayven, were you able to find the supplement somewhere else – I hope?

Sometimes a package will say delivered and is still on the mail truck had that happen a few times. My personal opinion I wouldn’t refund if it says delivered you have no way of knowing rather the buyer has the package. Anytime I have something for an apartment Hubby sends it signature confirmation.

@Ray: the seller was on Bonz, right?

Talk to support at Bonz. This is fishy business, and should be resolved.

Yup, here on Bonz. I figure that since they SAID it was sent to their shipping dept, and then they didn’t produce a tracking number till over a week after I’d paid, that they are a drop shipper, and really had NO idea of when the package had been shipped and just threw something out to me till I opened the claim and called their bluff.

I’ve already given support a heads up but when I wanted to report it through their resolution process, they were requiring I wait for 2 STINKIN WEEKS before they would even allow me to open a dispute.

Basically thumbed my nose at that and went right straight to PayPal.

I won’t say the sellers name here cause I know they’ll remove it. But all you got to do to see who is to go look at my account. Not hard to figure out

Rayven, I do agree they do look like a drop shipper, especially if they said that they sent it to their shipping department. 2 weeks in my book is just unacceptable, shouldn’t take that long for anything. Does seem fishy that the tracking number mysteriously appeared after you filled a claim. Thankfully you got your money back from PayPal.

Once a package is shown as “delivered” by the shipper it’s up to the buyer to deal with the shipping service. For all you know, the buyer’s scamming you – they really got it and now hope to get a refund too. Or the post office left the box at the door (happens here all the time, but luckily we’re in the boonies) and one of their neighbors stole it. That one’s happened to me personally, back when I lived in a big city!!! The simple fact of the matter is that you have NO control over what happens to that package once it leaves your hands. You are not God. You are not omnipotent. As long as you’re using a reputable shipping service, and not sending it on the back of a burrow, or via carrier pigeon, you’re being responsible and meeting your obligations, so if the shipper is NOT doing that, your buyer needs to take it up with them. Tell your buyer nicely but firmly that their “only recourse” at this point is to contact the post office and “file a claim” for the package. If they keep emailing, you keep replying with the exact same message. Unfortunately, good manners cannot always rule your decisions online anymore, because the other guys are playing by different rules.

P.S. you might want to add to all your listings a paragraph stating that “what happens to your package after it leaves my hands is not my responsiblity” and maybe something like “if you’d like to purchase shipping insurance for your item please email me”.

Actually it’s the sellers responsibility to make sure that the items are received and most anyone will tell you that. I to have the opinion that once I mail something, there’s not much I can do about it from there.

In my situation, I’m not sure what happened as my PO DID scan the thing in but I didn’t get it the day they SAID it was delivered or the next day either.

Funny where black holes show up

Well….apparently the buyer never did get his puzzles. But he suggested we split the difference. Fortunately this was a very nice and understanding buyer! I sent him a 50% refund, plus just mailed out a brand new puzzle (with signature confirmation required), so I think he’s very happy with that arrangement. Yes, I’m out quite a bit, but I do have a happy buyer. Can’t win them all!

What is a…drop shipper?

Basically it’s a company that keeps an inventory of items, but does not sell them. They use a 3rd party to make sales. Once there is a sale then they ship the item to the buyer.
