Is it worth it to sell books on Bonz?

I have a huge library of a certain genre of fiction books (most are in excellent condition) and I was wondering if it’s worth it to sell them on Bonanza, considering I’m abroad and shipping would cost me around $3-$5 per book to send to the US/elsewhere? I mean, the used prices on Amazon are so ridiculously cheap ($0.01? seriously!? might as well give them away) It seems I’d have to sell my books at the retail price to turn any kind of profit. Does anyone have any insight? Perhaps some Bonz book sellers can chime in? Should I just get rid of them on Half or turn them into the used bookstore? Any comments would be appreciated, thank you! With sellers on Amazon selling for as little as one cent and Kindle having free books available, it is not very worth it to try to sell books. I put very old books in my other booth sometimes, as there a few people who like them, but make a sale about once a year. I take my used mystery books, which I get at the library book sale back to the library. I think of it as a 50 cent rental. They make money to buy new things for the library. The same with CDs and old video games. Not worth my time to try to sell them. Ms Prissys Patterns |

I have 2 book booths; neither will ever enable me to retire. I do sell just enough to justify having the booths open but no more than that. I am getting ready to do an intensive promotion and will then make a decision. Another place to check is Alibris. Just Vintage Books and Collectibles |

All I sale is books. Check out what I sale, prices, and my feed back. Do the same with other book sellers, then decide. As Wild said it cost nothing to list here. Big Top Books |

Only 1 comment…seems to me MORE Sellers need to JOIN the Events that take place in Bonanza, like last July there was ‘’Christmas in July’’ where Sellers Sign Up to Participate in that, and Buyers become AWARE that This Bonanza is Really a TIGHT KNIT Community of Sellers Helping Sellers, and it gives a Buyer CONFIDENCE that we have CONFIDENCE in one another and in Bonanza, therefore, too… ’k, off my soapbox, now about how to BETTER Sell…here in Bonanza! I sell mostly books in my booth. I do comingle other items to help with drawing customers in and employ tweeters and panel sellers (it really does work for me – and I also tweet and rent panels in my booth for others too!). As a matter of fact, I just sold a book 10 minutes ago. Like OurVintageBooks, I won’t be retiring but I love doing it so will continue. JKL Book Supply, Not Just Books |

It is certainly a booth loved by those who enjoy reading. Well worth the time and effort. |

If you are going to compete with Amazon as far as selling books goes, you must, must, must offer an excellent combined shipping incentive. The reason why penny sellers on Amazon still make money is that their shipping is $3.99 per a little used paperback and no combined shipping. Buyers are smart. I have sent out over 1200 books with bonanza by having a build your own lot deal and a shipping deal. This also competes with ebay because buyers can decide which books they want in their lot. That said, I don’t need to make a living at this. I do it mostly for fun and a little spending money. If you don’t have enough books for buyers to choose from, it is not worth it. There is no profit in sending out low priced single books. After fees, I only really make anything through multiple item orders, which is why I do the one penny combined shipping. In my opinion, book sellers who have a hard time selling here have their combined shipping rate set a little too high to make a multiple item sale. A Child's Treasure Place |

90% of my listings are free shipping; when combining for multiple purchases, I will calculate the shipping and then refund the difference for what I calculated per book. I also set mine up at OBO. Negotiating is fun! Just Vintage Books and Collectibles |

I started out as a book seller. It wasn’t long before changes in technology made what was once a profitable product become almost obsolete. I still carry books, as well a audio’s and music on CD’s in my booth, but truth be told, sales on those are far and few between. Every now and again, one will sell and it always surprises, plus encourages me to leave them listed, since I have the storage space to keep them listed. From what I remember, books sell best online in the winter. When there are fewer sources to pick them up cheaply within ones community because of lack of yard sales. This is all just from my own personal experience. Moms Pennies From Heaven |

Wow, I checked this thread the other day and there were no replies and now there are some really great answers here! Thank you so much everyone. I still haven’t made up my mind yet as to whether or not to sell some books here – they’re all in english, not vintage, nothing special- fiction books you can still buy on amazon – so it’s kind of a hard decision as to whether or not I want to waste some time putting them up…. thank you for all your answers! Just a thought: maybe you can group them by author or by genre and sell 3 or 4 or even more in a lot. Saves you time and buyer shipping fees. funfashion&more's booth |

I think the OP would have a harder time because she is in Israel. International Shipping is very high, and of course, anything over four pounds, if it were shipped from the US to her location would be Priority Rate and very high. I’m not sure if the same applies from Israel to the US. OP, you may want to consider the high cost of shipping because you are out of the US. Moms Pennies From Heaven |
