This is a pair of vintage metal miniature shadowbox style frames with prints of Victorian ladies. I'm not sure of the metal, it could be brass, a magnet does not stick to it. One is dressed in a lacy white gown with blue ribbons. She is holding a brush in her hand and a dog is standing next to her. It looks almost like a Keeshound. The other woman has a white and gold gown with a feather hat. Both are posed in garden scenes. The pictures are paper and I believe that they are cut up postcards and were most likely made by Meissner & Buch Germany in the early 1900s. The frames measure approximately 4 3/4 inches tall (including the delicate top wreath design) and 3 inches wide. The frame opening is 1 3/4 inches wide and 2 3/4 inches tall and 3/4 of an inch deep.
These are in nice vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are a few scratches in the gold metal finish and slight tarnishing. I left the original patina intact, but you can easily refinish them if so desired. I also did not remove the backings as I did not want to risk damaging the paper. One of the olive velvet backs is missing the small nail that holds the back in place at the top and a hat pin was put in it's place, which works quite well. The backs are nice and secure. They both have little hanging rings on the back and are ready to place on the wall. There is no glass on the frames and one of the pictures needs to be adjusted under the backing as the edge shows at the bottom (see photos). Please remember that these are in used vintage condition, they would look wonderful placed on the wall. I have not seen another set like them in all the Internet searches I have done.
These would look great with that Shabby Chic Decor or in a Victorian style home. Perfect to add to your collection of miniature pictures. The frames could easily be used for any artwork you decided to place in them.
