Script Signature Hallmark

This stunning Turquoise Inlaid Sterling Silver Pendant and Necklace is by Calvin Begay, an award winning Native American artist and jewelry designer who was born in New Mexico in 1965 and grew up on the Navajo Reservation at Tohatchi. He designed his first piece of jewelry at the age of 10 in 1975. His jewelry designs have been featured in Arizona Highway Magazine and the Southwest Art Magazine.

This is a gorgeous Sterling Silver piece with a unique blending of colors of Turquoise, Spiny Oyster, Black Jet and more (there are five different gemstones in this pendant). There are 20 intricate inlays in the two sections combined. The pendant is attached to a round silver necklace with a diameter of 4 3/4 inches. This pendant is larger than his usual pieces and measures 4 inches in length and 1 1/4 inches wide across the top section. I took it to the local jewelry store and the pendant and necklace weigh 31.18 grams. The pendant has Mr. Begay's script signature hallmark and Sterling stamped on the back of both sections, which shows that this is a piece that Calvin himself made, not combined with another artist.

It is in excellent vintage condition (see pictures). This is truly a One-of-a-Kind pendant necklace. Each piece of stone has been hand cut and inlaid in the Sterling Silver for a unique design. It is beginning to get a little patina to it, I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that will only come with age. I leave the polishing up to you. This is a definite conversation piece and a great addition to anyone's collection of Native American and Southwestern Style Jewelry.
