When Jungle Doctor heard the word 'Serenyenyi' passing from mouth to mouth he knew that the scourge of the Africans an epidemic of measles was on the way. Without medical help, children would die in their thousands, so he organized an intensive campaign to attack the menace when it should appear. 'Flying squads' of African helpers were organized and trained, and every inch of hospital space was made ready.

The scourge arrived; over a thousand cases were treated, two hundred of them in hospital; more than seventy children were given sight who would have been permanently blind but for surgical aid. And the cost? Lives were saved at two shillings each; eyesight restored at sixpence per eye!

But one Chief was bitterly opposed to the mission of mercy; a man of evil life and habits, he organized a couter attack upon Jungle Doctor and his friends. How nearly successful he was, and how he was thwarted by the loyalty of a little blind boy, who died that others might live, is told in the pages of this book.
