This is a great pair of unique vintage abstract dangling earrings. These large and psychedelic earrings are approximately 3 ΒΌ inches long. At the top of each earring is a round circle medallion in purple and gold with a black back. The medallion is 1 inch in diameter. The clip on backs are glued to the circles. I believe these are from the 1970s to early 1980s. They could easily be converted to pierced earrings by removing the clip backs or taking off the medallions and adding a french wire to the holes.
I'm not positive, but I think these earrings are made with polymer clay or a similar type composite shaped in a handmade mold. The surfaces of the earrings were then hand painted or coated with the iridescent metallic colored paint that gives them that real shiny appearance. A finishing glaze or polish may have been applied as well. There is a crosshatch pattern that is prominent on the circles and the abstract form. The main colors are purple, green, gold and blue. They remind me of the Mardi Gras colors.
These are in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There is some slight wear on the backs of the earrings where the gold paint has a few rubs or discolorations.
These are perfect for the Bohemian style so popular today. They would be perfect for any season and any color outfit, very retro yet modern at the same time. They are sure to make a fabulous fashion statement.
