A direct binding is where a spirit is called forth and attached directly to your aura.

Why is a direct bound spirit a good idea? Isn't that dangerous?
Direct binding is perfect for those of you who do not like to wear a lot of jewelry. Spirits have to be attached to a physical item in order to remain in our realm. When they are attached to your aura, they are always with you. Your bond is stronger than it is when they are bound to a piece of jewelry. They will assist you in every aspect of your life and bring you joyous blessings in abundance. This is not dangerous in the least. The spirit works with you and not on its own accord.
