Item description for Vintage Hummingbird Bird Brooch Pin Abalone MOP Shell Alpaca Mexico

This is a gorgeous Mexican brooch or pin representing a Hummingbird. The bird’s body and wings are made of lovely iridescent inlaid Abalone Shell. I think that Mother of Pearl is used for the head, and tail, the eye is jet black. The back is stamped with “Alpaca Mexico”, which indicates it is not Sterling Silver but a combination of silver alloyed with copper, nickel or other metals, it is also referred to as coin silver. The pin is lovely and shows excellent craftsmanship. The bird measures approximately 2 ½ inches from the tip of the beak to the tip of the tail and 2 ½ inches from the top wing to the bottom tail.

This cute little hummingbird is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The abalone is intact with no chips or cracks. It has a secure safety clasp on the back. There is some patina to the silver on the back, I will leave that up to you to polish or not, as many people prefer the patina that comes only with age.
