This is a pair of richly detailed copper tone earrings with an exotic appearance to them. The classic face is quite dimensional and expressive. It reminds me of the old photographs I have seen of Rudolph Valentino from his silent films the Sheik and Son of the Sheik in the 1920s where he played the part of an Arab Sheik. This is almost identical to one of his publicity portrait shots wearing a knotted scarf around his head with the drape falling down from the knot and an earring in his right ear. It may have been modeled after him. He was thought of as quite a romantic figure. It is also reminiscent of the old swashbuckler pirate movies from the 1930s that were so popular.

These earrings are in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged pictures and they measure approximately 2 inches long (does not include the ear wires) and just over 1 1/4 inches wide. Both the earrings have a dangling faux pearl drop earring hanging from the ear on the face. An earring on an earring, quite unique and very Art Deco looking. These earrings could be any age, but I'm guessing that they are most likely from the 1930s through the 1950s. These were acquired from an elderly woman at least 30 years ago. The gold-tone ear wires are not original to the earrings. The earrings have the repousse look to them, but are identical to each other and obviously from a mold. The backs are a darker color that could almost be described as Japanned, but they aren't totally black or lacquered. I can't state for sure that these are pure copper; they could be another metal with a copper finish, a magnet does not stick to them. The faces have a few little lines on them, it is not damage, but part of the original mold as they are identical on both faces, just more pronounced on one.

These earrings would make an unusual addition to your collection of figural jewelry. I have searched the Internet and have not found another pair like them anywhere. They are quite unique. There is a similar brooch listed from the 1930s if you search under "Pirate Brooch” in Google shopping. It is made from brass and has cloth and enamel on it.
