This is an exceptionally rare 1920's mascot depicting a flying nude man with bat wings, in purest Art Deco style. Silver plated bronze, signed to base, with foundry stamp behind right wing. Edit. Sasportas was one of the foremost producers of only the very finest mascots in France. They specialized in Art Deco creations, and the name is synonymous with great style and creativity. Described in Michel Legrand book 'Mascottes Passion' Plate 276.
I purchased this in the 1980s from one time Hollywood Legend "Vampira" Maila Nurmi. A Finnish-American actress and television personality who created the campy 1950s character Vampira. In the early 1950s, Nurmi was close friends with James Dean, and they spent time together at Googie's coffee shop on the corner of Crescent Heights and Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. She explained their friendship by saying, "We have the same neuroses." Sadly she passed in 2008.

Condition:  Totally 100% 1920 original showing the gentle passing of time. There is absolutely no restoration or replating on this magnificent piece whatsoever, there is some loss to the silver plating but that came with time. A beautiful piece on the black glass candle holder, to act as a base,  that has been turned upside down. There has been particular care in the detail of  face, hands and wings. The chasing or engraving process was beautifully done. Please remember this time was pre-owned and was used by Ms. Maila Nurmi's.
