More details about this item

Ball Perfect Mason Quart Canning Jar and Glass Lid 1923-1933 This canning jar is not a reproduction. Made 1923 to 1933. This jar was old when it was given to me in the early 1970's, and had been used for years for canning home-grown food. Embossed Ball PERFECT MASON. Round shape with no underscore in the name. This jar was made between 1923 to 1933. Mold number 14 on the bottom. Bead seal. Embossed Glass Lid with brass colored metal band. The lid is embossed Ball Glass Top, To Open Insert Knife Below Rubber. The Ball logo on this lid was added 1933-1937 (name underscored.) I used jars like this to store dried peas, pasta, rice, and other staples as part of our country kitchen decor. I've also used them to hold sewing notions such as buttons and thread. Size: about 6.75 inches tall without lid; base 3.75 inches diameter Condition: Very good. No cracks. Small chip on the outside upper rim. Inside the jar by the chip is smooth, so it does not extend inside. Ball discontinued the use of their famous "Ball blue" glass in 1937. Blue canning jars have been reproduced, but there are differences from the originals.
