More details about this itemHalf Gallon Pickle Jar with Presto Glass Lid and bail. This old canning jar is the perfect shape for large dill pickles. Ten indented lines in shoulder and base. Embossed mark on bottom C "GC" 5 Made by Glass Container, Inc. also embossed on bottom 3587 5 Original metal bail handle. Includes Presto glass lid. embossed around the edge: Presto PAT. RE. 17562 To Open Insert Knife At Notch. 18 Old steel metal ring. The lid patent number was issued on June 16, 1857. I'm sure this lid is not that old. Glass canning jar lids were generally replaced by metal ones in the 1950's. This Presto lid was made from about 1925 to 1946. The canning jar mark G C (intertwined angularly designed letters, vertically arranged) was first used in 1945 or earlier by Glass Containers, Inc. Add to your collection of vintage canning jars, or use this jar to make pickles! Size: about 8.5 inches tall; 5 inches diameter; top 2.5 inches diameter; 64 ounces capacity to the rim (half-gallon, or two quarts). Condition: Excellent. No chips or cracks on jar or lid.
