(40) 16 oz Emergency Soy Candles (unscented), Lasts 150+ hours each. Stock up now!
Great for power outages, or building up a kit. These long lasting emergency candles will burn for 150 hours and the flame will burn inside the jar for added safety. Melted wax is warm to the touch, and will not burn you like traditional paraffin candles. These candles are essential for building a 72 hour kit, year supply, and emergency preparedness.
Why use Soy over Paraffin?
Soy wax will last 50% longer than a solid or liquid paraffin candle of the same size therefore providing more light and heat long after a paraffin candle would have gone out. Also, Soy wax burns at a cooler temperature and if the wax is spilled, it will not burn you like a paraffin candle will.
Soy also has a longer shelf life and will not harden to the point where it cracks and becomes unusable like a paraffin candle. Liquid paraffin candles (usually stored in plastic containers) will warp or crack the container over the years and begin to leak.
Soy is also cleaner burning than paraffin and is a safer choice when burning candles indoors. Paraffin is an oil by-product, and thus will cause breathing problems over time, and place a noticeable toxic smell in the air when burned for several hours.
So to sum it up, Soy lasts 50% longer, is safer indoors, has a longer shelf life, and the wax will not burn you if spilled! This is why soy candles are perfect to use for emergency preparedness.
How should I store my Emergency Soy Candles?
Soy candles have a melting point of 130 degrees. They will need to be stored in a cool place out of the sun. If they happen to be placed in the heat, they will liquefy over time, but will not leak if the lid is sealed. If they do liquefy, place them upright in a cool area, open the container and center the wick and let the wax harden again.
How many emergency candles do I need?
You will need at least twelve emergency candles per month in case of a long term outage. Each emergency candle will last 150 hours total burn time.
Houses are not built like they were in the late 1800’s early 1900’s when candles were the common source of light. Older homes were built to take advantage of sunlight throughout the day. To achieve this, there were no interior rooms, and all rooms (bathrooms, closets) a window was installed to let in the sunlight. This way, candles were not used during the day simply because there was no need. Also, older homes were built smaller and the light penetrated the house much easier than the larger homes of today.
Now, fast forward to today where candles are no longer considered a necessity, and homes are wired with electricity. Now, you can have interior rooms and hallways completely cut off from the natural sunlight, and without electricity, half of your home can be dark during the day, and you will need a light source to perform basic household functions.
During a full extended power outage, flashlights and batteries will only last so long. Once the batteries are dead, you will need to rely on candles as a source of light. Each of our emergency candles will give you over 150 hours of light. Our emergency candles are made of pure Cargill soy wax in a pressed mason jar with a large all cotton wicks. We have used the largest wick possible to maximize the amount of light generated. The wax will melt to a warm temperature, and will not burn you when spilled, and the natural soy wax in our emergency candles is non-toxic.
Our emergency candles will last 150 hours each, but you may expect a family of 4 to have five or more burning at once for 8 hours a day. You will need more if you have dark interior rooms like bathrooms and hallways that will need light throughout the day. This is why we recommend at least one case per month. Larger homes with multiple interior rooms can expect to be burning 10+ candles every night and morning to keep the house lit.
