Benjamin Franklin Taylor (1819-1887) won renown as a war correspondent for Chicago newspapers during the Civil War. In peacetime he became a freelance writer best known as a poet and travel writer. Description: Chicago: S.C. Griggs Co, 1874. Brown harcover with gilt title on spine, and black title on cover. Illustrated with 6 named illustrations. 258 pp. with 9 pages of literature advertisements in the back. Condition: Binding tight. Front and back covers showing slight wear and bumped / rubbed corners. Small spot of red paint on cover. Head and tail of spine chipped. Some interior writing in pencil, mostly previous bookseller's notes, but some horizontal lines within margins.
