Here is a wonderful and rare book by John Macoun. The book is titled Manitoba and the Great North West and it was published in 1882. I am not a book dealer, so please bear with me with my description. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. "The Field for Investment, the Home of the Emigrant, being a Full and Complete History of the Country, its geography, area,
situation, and resources;" There are a number of drawings in the book, most are black and white. There are also a few maps (see details below). The brown cloth cover has black and gilt stamped pictorial decorations on the spine and front and back covers.

Considering the book is nearly 130 years old, I think it is in fairly decent condition overall. However, it is far from perfect. There is wear on the cover and the spine is torn (see pics).  The spine is loose, a few pages are partially detached and the back cover is nearly completely detached. The fold-out frontis is missing. There are 2 other fold-out maps that are present. One of these has a large tear and the other a small tear. There also is another map that may have been a fold-out, but only a portion of it is present. No fold-out parts, just a partial page of map. There are numerous age or soil related spots and stains and some small page tears here and there. There is writing in the front of the book with dates of 1882 and 1883.

Of interest: On the back of the last map, there is some writing - the title of the book, the author's name and another name. I don't know if this is significant or not, so I included a picture of the writing.
