More about this item
This breathtaking wedding gown has the most voluminous skirt with layers of embroidered organza on the sides and back with the front solid panel in the style of Marie Antoinette. I have no crinoline or hoop petticoat to go with this dress, but it can accommodate a full hoop or crinoline of your choice. I am guessing from the fabric that this is a 1940's gown, though it could be a bit older.
It has the original metal zipper marked 'Waldes' which is fabric covered and has stays on the side, hand sewn to keep the zipper straight. Much of this dress is hand sewn and has no label or tags. Incidentally, Waldes is originally a Czech manufacturer of snaps and zippers and other small metal objects founded by Jindrich Waldes and his brother and combined with the company Kohinoor. This was in 1902, but no information on when zipper production began and markings as far as dates.
This is a cream color or ivory fabric and appears to be natural fiber without bleaching. It has a light stiffness to it like starch but creases steam out easily. the taffeta underneath matches. There are no built in crinolines, the natural fullness is from the top layer of organza tiers.
This dress is in excellent vintage condition with some minor tears to the fabric-the most obvious is a one inch tear in the top layer at the back waist. This would be an easy repair with thread matching the embroidery. Also a waist seam-about 1 inch and the zipper at the waist needs reinforcing. The inside fabric is a taffeta and has some seams coming out that need reinforcing too. Overall, the structure and fabric are both quite sturdy and wearable. I believe these minor issues were due to a somewhat larger girl or woman trying to squeeze in this very small dress.(not me!) Oh and one very tiny 1/2 inch rip at the back hem which is a small train(probably a heel caught in it while dancing!)
no odors, slight yellowing at arm pit seams-has not been cleaned.
would look great with this necklace:
