"Salons Chinois Tapestry Wall Hanging"
Design originally made in the mid XVIIIth century, by Jean Pillement, for the "Haroue" castle in Lorraine (eastern France). Part of a set called the "salons chinois". Chinoiserie, a French term, signifying "Chinese-esque", refers to a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeenth century, which reflect Chinese artistic influences. It is characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of an imaginary China.
This high quality tapestry is woven on Jacquard looms. Backed with lining and tunnel for easy hanging. Cotton and wool blend. Spot clean only. Woven in France. Measures 58" long x 44" wide.
