Gorgeous 60's vintage suit by Davidow from Montaldo's. Sophisticated in gold and trimmed in black and gold. The jacket has 4 pockets with gold and black trim and the cuffs are trimmed as well, with satin and gold buttons. The skirt waist is trimmed in satin. The sleeveless top has 3 figure flattering slits and the arms are trimmed in satin with a bow on each. The two left pockets of the jacket need to be resewn. I do not consider this a flaw, just a bit of required maintenance. This beautiful suit will need the wrinkles steamed when the new owner receives it. I will not put this work of art through more that it should be, so I have not steamed it. The skirt and top have metal zippers...predating the synthetic zipper. The top zipper unzips all the way, so keep this in mind when putting on the top...much easier to put on completely unzipped since the fabric is not stretchy.
Sold by the prestious Montaldo's, a lady's specialty shop, was started in 1919 by two sisters, Lillian and Nelle Montaldo. It was a pioneer in the field of ladies' ready-to-wear, and was known for their high quality and personal service. Branches were found in Richmond, Virginia, Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Greensboro, North Carolina, Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio, Denver and Colorado Springs, Colorado, St. Louis, Missouri and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. In 1995, Montaldo's declared bankruptcy and went out of business.

Founded in the late 19th Century, the William H. Davidow and Sons company manufactured coats and suits. Eventually the business became Davidow, known for their tailored suits. Davidow suits were always wonderfully cut and made, using integral features of the fabric rather than applied detail. By the 1960s, they were producing copies of Chanel designed suits - a classic box jacket suit with straight skirts that could be found in better department stores across the USA.
