The American Dream
"The American Dream" is a series of digital paintings created as I dive into my new venture in life as a full time, self employed visual artist. The paintings explore items that have been rooted in my brain as things that are needed to live a "good life." The problem is, the definition of a good life, or the american dream, is different for everyone. There is no formula. There is no a to b. This series of paintings is a way for me to discover all the things in my mind that are not true to my good life. The things self imposed and those imposed by people around me, society itself, and a long history of cultural mis-conceptions.
A Nice Car is a Must Have
Cars are odd things to me. You buy a car, and no matter how expensive they are, the second you drive them off the lot, they start to depreciate in value. However, the want for a nice car is rooted deep within me. This want started at a very young age for me, watching my father wash his baby blue old-school V8 Chevy Malibu by hand, waxing it to a perfect polish. He would even let me sit on his lap and steer down the alley in back of our house. Seeing how happy he was with his car, planted the thought deep in my mind - "A Nice Car is a Must Have"
As I think about cars now, I still have that urge to own a nice car... but when I really think about it, would owning a nice car make me happier? No. Not for me. I would worry more about it, the repairs would be more, and I would just think too much about how it was depreciating in value...
