Twenty years ago, party planner and native Anne Fairbanks started her own clothing business. Anne had identified a desire among her friends in communities up and down the East Coast for chic, brightly colored separates in flattering styles and flexible sizes that could be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. These day and evening clothes would come in cottons, silks and washable fabrics.

As Anne’s notion took shape, she looked up Darlene Searfoss whom she had met some years before when Darlene was working in the upholstery business. The reunion marked the beginning of a happy collaboration with Darlene and her husband, Marv. A design and production team was in place.

The business was established.

It was "loving hands at home" for Anne Fairbanks Ltd. in its early days with the Searfoss’s basement in serving as headquarters. As the business grew, production moved to a brewery, then to a doublewide trailer and finally a decade ago to location in .

Anne’s businessman husband, Tony Fairbanks, bought a van to carry the sample line for their successful road shows from to . Anne Fairbanks Ltd. was expanding by leaps and bounds! A growing group of loyal women eagerly anticipated the annual visit by Anne and Tony. Anne’s vision was right on target. The classic colorful pants, jackets, skirts, flowing tops and bottoms, blouses and pantsuits are designed without the restraints of Seventh Avenue sizing and have won special affection among the over fifty crowd.

Darlene and Marv Searfoss continued to manage the staff led by Lucille Fredrick, head seamstress and Bernice Thompson, head cutter. These talented women, and freelancers when needed, produced the custom made clothes.  Ann Page and Daryl Otten joined the sales team in 2000 and drove the van that is a showroom on wheels. It was packed with approximately 530 pieces of clothing, mirrors, display racks, coat hangers, measuring tapes, screens for instant changing rooms, order forms, sewing kits and even a pair of ladies’ heels to wear while fitting.

Now the traveling showroom has reached a new incarnation with!  The showroom comes right into your home (or work place) through the internet and offers the same great quality merchandise!
