An antique cast iron pressure cooker from the early 1800's. Also known as a soup digester to soften gristle and bones via slow pressurized cooking. This is a 13 pound, solid cast iron vessel that holds 2 gallons. It has embossed in the casting of the lid: Savery & Co, 2G, Philada. It is functional, has a swing bale handle of cast iron. There are 2 cast grippers in which the lid rotates tightly under. The pressure release valve on top is free moving; there must have been something they put on top of it to fixate it. The dimensions are 10 x 10 not including the 7 inch handle. The bottom is marked No.11 80.
