BARCLAY MCCLELLAND FLOWER BOWL 1930'S
MCCLELLAND BARCLAY WAS AN AMERICAN PAINTER OF PIN UP ART. BY THE AGE OF 21 HIS WORKS HAD BEEN PUBLISHED IN THE SATURDAY EVENING POST, LADIES HOME JOURNAL AND COSMOPOLITAN. BARCLAY DID NOT LIMIT HIMSELF TO PAINTING. IN THE 1930'S HE SET UP A SMALL COMPANY TO REPRODUCE JEWELRY AND FABRICATE UTILITARIAN FIGURES FOR ASHTRAYS, BOOKENDS, DESK SETS, LAMPS AND OTHER ARTICLES FOR HOME USE. THESE OBJECTS WERE FABRICATED OUT OF CASY GRAY METAL WITH A THICK BRONZE PLATE FINISH.
I found this dish in the attic of my in laws years ago, I never tried to clean it Because I didn’t want to ruin its value. I used it to hold walnuts during the Holidays. My sister in law said that it was something special but didn’t remember the story behind it. It is signed by the artist and also numbered. The # is 9-6942K. It measures 11 ¼ inches in Diameter and the dish itself is heavy 2 lbs 11 oz. I’m no expert but the condition looks good. When I got my Christmas stuff down this year I decided to downsize and clean the attic out. If I sell it great!! If I don’t, it will hold walnuts next Christmas. Thanks for looking A31
