Custom Cottage Bedrooms....

... from Kitsch-n-Kaboodle!!

Welcome! Dan here, but people call me the 'shabby sheik'. You've stumbled on my webstore, the only place on the internet where you can have your cottage bedroom customized to your specification in over a dozen colors! I offer the only fine professional lacquered enamel finish in the distressed cottage 'shabby-chic' fashion to be found anywhere in the world!

NOW ACCEPTING ORDERS FOR SUMMER SEASON!!!

Use This listing to have a standard size tall chest of drawers in this style, 20s/30s elegant, sometimes referred to as 'depression', or 'Grandiose Gatsby', custom finished and restored to your specification.

These chests are always a darling addition to any cottage setting, with the sweet little decoration and turned legs, absolutely classic! Size can vary depending on model, but most range from 30 to 36 wide, and about 4-feel tall, give or take. The height can depend on features on top- glove drawer, mirror, or backsplash. Average depth is nearly always 18-20 inches.

This advertisement is for the service of restoration on a moderately sized and average styled chest only. The furniture itself is not included in the restoration cost. Some extra options, extreme repairs, alterations, more than one color, or other specialty effects may be additional. Check with me first before ordering to confirm the cost for your restoration. In some extreme cases, it may be necessary to estimate your total cost when beginning the order.

The quality is the best in the industry, and I charge less than half the going rate for refinishing and specialty repairs!!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING:

STEP ONE: Select your model! The ones you see pictured at bottom in painted colors are SAMPLES ONLY of previously completed jobs from my other clients. They are NOT available for purchase! They belong to my other clients...

But that's ok because I'm happy to do another one just for you!

Option 1: We commonly carry about a dozen chests and dressers at any time for you to choose from in our giant 7,000-square-foot warehouse,

OR

Option 2: You can send me the peice you already own or have purchased from another source, to have it customized and restored to your liking. Simply send photos and measurements to furniture@kitsch-n-kaboodle.com to ensure it qualifies for this service, along with any specific areas that require repair or alterations/upgrades you desire, and the size. Most common repairs and carpentry are included in the advertised cost.

A full selection of models I offer that may be customized is available by browsing our listings here online or simply by asking. Give me an idea of your style and your size requirements, and budget. I can reply with my recommendations for you.

You might also get a better idea for colors, styles, and options by browsing my archives to see what other customers are ordering. Custom services are my specialty. Just search kitchnkaboodle's photostream!!

If checking my archives and portfolio, only models marked 'AVAILABLE' or 'New Arrival' can be ordered with custom restoration. The cost of the one you select will be added to your invoice for the restoration- for online purposes, the invoice for the furniture and for the restoration can be combined into one invoice. If you are providing me with a piece from another source, you would deal with that source directly in purchasing your piece (we do not order on your behalf from your source), you would only receive the invoice for the restoration itself from us.

STEP TWO: Select your color, upgrades, and finish! A wide range of stylistic variations, painted effects, colors and combinations is available to suit just about any taste, and my professional premium-quality lacquer-painted finish, applying the best professional restoration and refinishing techniques to the shabby painted look, is the best on the market today! I am the only one who does it.

First, be sure to familiarize yourself with my refinishing practices, so you know what you're getting. THIS IS NOT LATEX WALL PAINT, and THERE IS NO COMPARISON TO THE OTHER SELLERS ONLINE. This is completely different: fine, smooth, oil-based, brushless, 5-coat lacquer enamel with traditional varnish overcoat. Just like a furniture factory finish. This is a high-end finish.

Then consider if you'd like any special effects, and what color you may want, as well as any alterations, carving or applique additions, and hardware choices. Before finalizing your decisions you may want to inquire as to cost of any extra specialty services to ensure it fits into your budget. Every project is different, so please clear your purchase with me prior to submitting your order. Be as specific as possible.

NEED HELP ENVISIONING THE FINISH OR COLOR?? You may want to order a real-life sample of the painted finish before deciding, so you can see your color in person and better understand the difference between a professional finish and regular ol' wallpaint. Samples are even refundable if you go ahead with a custom order! VIEW OR ORDER COLOR SAMPLES HERE

STEP THREE: LASTLY, Send your request! Once you've completely read through ALL services and options, and decided on the pieces and the finish, send me an e-mail prior to entering your purchase to make sure I am able to meet your request. Include your name, phone, and postal code, or pick-up/drop-off needs. If you already have your piece from another source, e-mail or call to make arrangements for pick-up or shipping to my workshop. If you are getting your piece from our available stock, send us a note to make sure it is available and that the options you want are ok to apply to that piece. I will confirm all the parts of your order, availability, ETA, and total cost. Once you get our reply and approval, you are free to place your order! You need only make a deposit up front for customized services. 1/2 down is customary (not including shipping cost), and the rest may be paid on completion of the project.

Why buy from us: Here at my Kitsch-n-Kaboodle Workshop, I am reinventing the world of shabby cottage decorating, one piece of furniture at a time!

My finish is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Take everything you know or have seen about distressed finishing, and toss it! My finish looks better, feels better, and lasts better than anything else on the market today.

Over the past 12 years, I have developed my own method of distressed painting, using only fine oil-based paints and varnish overcoats in a 7-step process with 5 layers (each layer is several layers of its own).

No coarse sanding, no drips, no brush marks, no grit, no sticky parts or stuck drawers, and everything is properly repaired by a carpenter. It is inspired by the 'powder-coated' finishes used by the factories that made this furniture in the 1920s and 30s, and because of that my finish actually increases the value and desirability of the furniture.

Not only is the quality better, but it is authentic to the furniture and will preserve it for future generations. The wood is sealed, a very thin but tough coat of color enamel is applied (usually 2-3 coats). It is rubbed down by hand EVERYWHERE, not just the outer edges, and it is varnished with 3-4 coats, just like a wood finish at the finest furniture factory. This is shabby-chic finishing on a new level....

Drawers glide easily, free of that latex goop everyone uses. Doors operate properly. Nothing sticky. Nothing messy. Very clean. Sleek. Worn, but polished and sophisticated. This is more work than fine wood finishing, yet I charge less than half what a fine finisher charges! You just can't beat it. Don't believe me? Check my portfolio. My work speaks for itself.

If you put my finish in a line-up with other shabby pieces, you can pick it out immediately. It is the best quality you can get, GUARANTEED. Please do not compare this to the other shabby stuff here online. No one else does this finish. This is my art, and this is the only place you can order it.

Other dealers at shows when I display this work are confused and uncertain if it is original or new finish. The most common comment I get from other dealers is, "How do you do this?" or "I didn't know it was possible to get the paint that smooth". My favorite remarks from customers are 'way better than anticipated, far exceeded expectations' and 'so beautiful it made my eyes tear up'.

I have 10 years experience doing this ultra-high-end fine finish, and complete confidence in my work and artistic process. I guarantee this is the best you can get, and at half the price you'd pay any other specialist for high-quality refinishing work. My rates are less than the local house-painter, yet my services are far more difficult to find.

I also do resin-cast carving repairs, veneer repairs, custom alterations for repurposing and up-cycling, and custom-made new furniture from salvage.

This is a HIGH-END finish, leagues beyond what you normally find at the antiques malls. It is the same process fine refinishing and restoration of wood color, but I use color enamels instead of woodstain. Most other shabby artisans simply slap on the cheap wall paint. They don't repair. They don't check anything. There is no sealer coat.

I treat my shabby pieces exactly the same as a real wood finish restoration, rebuilding, repairing, checking structural components and operational parts. I repair and replace missing carvings. I rebuild. I can do alterations, and I sometimes rebuild my pieces better than when they were originally made. I do it this way because I started out as a fine wood refinisher, and I believe in sustaining quality furniture-making traditions.

Latex will last you a couple of years before it shows dirt and stains. It is very porous and coarse, absorbing dirt and oil from simply being handled. Many shabby artisans online make this worse by using sandpaper that is far too coarse-grained, and sanding through the wood itself with no sealer protection. In some cases they don't even completely cover the furniture with paint, assuming what you don't see won't hurt you.

I believe in thoroughness and that a job should be done right. My finish is of heirloom quality that will last you a lifetime and completely preserve the item's integrity and value. It is the only finish with the satin touch, of the same quality as a professional woodtone finish would have. I call my finish 'Worn to Perfection' and my work is always signed and labeled. It's my own mark of guarantee of quality.

I am the only shabby artisan to apply this refinisher's technique to the cottage style and I have perfected it over the course of a decade. But don't take my word for it- Check my portfolios!

Custom services are my specialty. Just search for kitchnkaboodle's photostream!!
My Portfolios:

My finish is rubbed by hand, not just on the outer edges, but everywhere, all surfaces. The final finishing coat is butter-smooth, like a baby's bottom. When shopping for furniture, don't just look at color- feel it. And check the reflection:

It is painted color, but the finish reflects the light, even in the most matte or satin lustre. Can't get that with latex. And CLEAN drawers!

See the extremely natural and realistic wear? Part of the look is the contrast of the dark old finish beneath the lighter painted layer. You can't get that from backyard latex paint. No coarse over-exposed white woodgrain. Only the old finish peeking through from beneath, just like a real 100-year-old enamel finish would be.

Multiple color combos? No problem! Check out that shine! Great contrast. Clean hardware. I remove hardware in some cases, but my paint is thin enough that even painted hardware will not become difficult to use with latex crud. Whether you want painted hardware, or brass patina on your hardware, it is always removed and treated separately, and put back on after finishing, for clean operation and appearance.

Painted interiors? No problem! Just ask. (Take a little longer, but WORTH it!!)

I guarantee BEST quality. Period. Don't believe me? Check out my pieces, and ask my other customers. I get great feedback, references, thank-you notes and holiday cards from happy customers even years afterward. Look for the reflection....

Price List and Options: Tall 20s chest customization & restoration

As shown, standard: $298 Complete standard exterior finish with original matching fancy backsplash atop and fancy filigreed metal hardware or replacement glass knobs. Knobs come from an outside source- they are $3each. Chests without a splash may have one replaced or custom-made (included in cost). Includes all typical carpentry repairs of structure and surfaces, drawer check, and wheels/casters (new or vintage-your choice). That's how they were built, and that's the standard. One carving applique may be added inclusive of the restoration cost at this level. Some hardware upgrades may present a small additional cost depending on cost of hardware and difficulty of installation.

Glove-Drawer upgrade: +$50 To really finish off the look and add some extra detail, you may either pick out a glove-drawer model, or ask me to add a glove-drawer fancy crown top. I always use authentic old/salvage parts, so this will be completely right for the piece, and professionally crafted and installed. E-mail prior to purchase to ensure I am able to fill your request. Availability may fluctuate. A glove drawer is normally 1/2 the depth of a larger standard drawer, and set back on top of the piece. The backsplash is smaller and placed on top of this.

Add appliques, trim, mirror, or alterations: +$50-150 for the ultimate in custom alterations for these dressers, so you can get it as fancy as you want it! Here is an example of before & after on a dresser I "beautified" based on a customer's requests: (Alterations made: central applique, cut-out and applique bottom apron, add 20s-style casters/wheels, router edge molding on top surface.)

Other specialty upgrades include custom-made fancy mirrors for the top, because tall chests in this era typically did not have these. Best place to check examples of alterations is the Flickr portfolio.

Hardware Swap: (market rate) For those who prefer the depression glass knobs, I am happy to swap out the old metal ones for high quality new reproduction glass knobs in the depression style. You would reimburse the cost of ordering them (usually $3ea), or you can send me your own hardware, but installation is free as part of the job. Some fancier embossed and shaped varieties are also available- check my portfolio or ask for pics. These knobs come in a variety of colors you may use to contrast and coordinate your room.

ITEM-SPECIFIC SPECIAL TERMS: Buyer pays total shipping cost in full. Seller is not responsible for any shipping charges. Shipping is not included in this service-only listing. Please use the shipping estimate provided with the furniture you pick out for restoration, or inquire prior to purchase for shipping arrangements.

This is a CUSTOM-order. YOU ARE ORDERING MY SERVICES. The purchase of a service implies by nature your agreement to allow me to change or alter your property. Purchasing services also by nature implies that you agree to allow the time appropriate for the completion of work. I reserve the right to alter the ETA on completion as necessary and appropriate for the project, as it may be difficult to tell how long some jobs will take until they are underway. ETA also depends upon the number of orders I have at a given time of year, and is always weather-dependent and health-dependent. Craftsman reserves the right to cater timing of services around item safety, quality of outcome, and personal safety.

IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO COOPERATE AND ALLOW THE TIME REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE WORK, THEN KINDLY TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

I offer lightning-speed specialty work that you will not find anywhere else in the world. You are not buying an object- you are commissioning handi-crafts, similar to commissioning a piece of fine art. I offer it for a fraction of the cost compared to the few other firms willing to do this work, and as such I expect your full and complete cooperation. This is not an importer catalog warehouse. If time-frame is an issue for you, it is always best to e-mail your intentions prior to purchase to ensure your request can be filled in a timely manner, especially if you require other specialty effects or restorations that require liason with other specialists, such as upholstery or caning. I do not guarantee the timing of other craftsmen/women.

The time or speed of work is never guaranteed and is completely separate from shipping/handling times and other craftsmen that may be subcontracted to suit your request.

In addition to work time, an order may have "lead time"- that is the time it takes to complete other orders placed before yours, and to prepare the item and work space for your work. Services are first-come-first-served, and I reserve the right to withhold services until those customers that came before you have been taken care of first. Due to extremely high demand, I no longer offer expedited services. If a buyer should demand a rush order without approval, it will result in cancellation of that order without refund. DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Your deposit in part pays the craftsman for the time, labor, and expertise of design and consultation, which is impossible to reverse after it has been furnished to you. For this reason we regret we are unable to refund deposits on canceled custom work. This is standard in this industry.

To find out what lead time to expect for your order and when it may begin, always ASK AHEAD OF TIME. I will do my best to work with you. I am flexible- you should also be flexible. You must be patient and lend your complete and whole-hearted, helpful cooperation. For more info, please read the aboutMe page, check my portfolio, and our complete terms and conditions of sale, or simply e-mail or call with any questions. You will reach me directly. It's not a phone bank of service reps! You have my personal attention.

All custom orders should be approved by the craftsman prior to purchase. Unauthorized custom work may be rejected without warning.

I do not accept paypal because their terms offer NO fraud protection for custom specialty services or furniture delivery. Sorry.

Complete Terms & Conditions of Sale are linked in the title bar of all pages of our store, to every e-mail from our personal account, or may be provided by request.

Where else can you get your chest custom-finished?
