Crosswalk Gestures is a hinged triptych; acrylic and photo collage on stretched canvas. The sides are painted and no frame is needed. The title is a pun on the shape of the triptych and the crosswalk, or overhead bridge, uniting Hunter College North with the West building at the third floor level. It depicts Hunter College students on the crosswalk circa 1999. The hinged panels measure 28 (H) by 22 (w) inches for the left panel; 50 (h) by 20 (w) inches for the center, and 28 by 28 for the right panel. Overall, the piece measures 50 inches at its height, and 70 inches total width.
This photo collage is a kind of hide and seek game. There are bits of photographs on which the triptych is based worked into the acrylic image, and the trick is to find them. Hint: there are 2 in the left panel; 3 in the center panel, and 3 in the right panel.
This work was on display in the Oasis Room at Hunter College, Manhattan, for 10 years, and is now on sale.
