Sara Jewelry Design. Necklace of dyed bone barrels alternating with terra cotta colored porcelain "gourd" beads. 20 inch necklace design with one inch silver plated hook and eye closure. Strung on heavy (2mm) cotton cordage. This is a substantial necklace and is suitable for either gender. The bone beads average 22mm in diameter and the gourds are approximately 14mm around. Since these are hand made, no two are precisely alike.
A few words on how these bone beads were created: These Kenyan bone bead are hollowed out and the intramedullary space is filled with charred wood through which a beading hole is drilled. They are then dyed in either coffee or tea which creates a random take-up effect. I do the finishing work which includes sealing each one in high gloss Varathane.
