Framed Art Tile Asian Style 1960s Handmade Greenville South Carolina Handmade in Greenville, South Carolina in the 1960's. Recreation of ancient Asian art at a kiln named "The Beginning." Ceramic tile picturing Asian couple in traditional clothing. Details include cherry blossoms, lotus blossom, bird and bird cage. Paper label on back: Glazart Collectibles A modern adaptation of an ancient art form From the kiln of The Beginning, Greenville, S. C. dial 242-3180 Paper backing and paper label glued to the back of the tile. Natural wood frame, stained, bamboo design inscribed on wood. The inner frame is also natural wood. Picture hanger in place. The style is probably Japanese Edo era. Size: about 8.25 inches square, outer frame seven-eighths inch thick (front to back). The tiles are thick and heavy, apparently about 6.25 inches square. Each picture weighs more than 1 pound. Condition: Very good. No chips or cracks. Frames show their age, but in good condition. These framed tiles were obviously made in or before the mid 1960's, as can be seen by the absence of zip code and area code on the paper tag.
