A vintage, well seasoned, cast iron, self basting, dutch oven, number 8 made by Griswold Mfg. Company of Erie, PA in the early 1930's. The pot bottom has the Griswold cross logo and reads cast iron 8 tite top ducth oven Erie PA USA patent 1333917 1278A. It has a 4 inch tall, steel swing bale type handle held by two 1 inch projections and a leverage tab on one side.
There is a trifooted inner trivet with with 38 holes in a circular pattern and it reads The Griswold Co Erie PA USA 8 Trivet 206.
The fitted lid has an open centered 2 inch handle, and reads inside the Griswold cross logo, no.8, self basting lid, and the patent number. The entire item weighs 10 pounds and measures 11 inches from sidehandle to sidehandle, 4 inches deep, 8 inches tall to top of lid open handle, and 10 inches for the inner diameter. There are no cracks in the cast iron or flaws.
