Add a touch of vintage glamour to your look with this one-of-a-kind masterpiece assembled from vintage saris. This handpainted, embroidered and embelished scarf is an elegant way to cover up when the sun sets.
In an inspired recycling endeavor, sections of vintage saris are pieced together into romantic and colorful one-of-a-kind shawls. This type and detail of sari embroidery, beading and cut-out-work doesn't exist any longer and you will be the only one wearing this exact same scarf.
Our sari scarves are made in Mumbai by a designer artisan. Not only are they extremely beautiful they also give us a chance to showcase worthy works of art from the other side of the world.
Like us, these individual works of art sometimes display small imperfections which only add to their distinctiveness and beauty.
"The first recorded reference to the sari occurs in a 5000 year old legend from India told in the Mahabharat. It is the story of the beautiful Draupadi, wife of the Pandavas, who was lost to an enemy clan in a gambling duel. When this happened, the Lord Krishna promised to protect her virtue. So, when the evil victors attempted to grab Draupadi they caught one end of the diaphanous material that draped her so demurely, yet seductively. They continued to pull and unravel the cloth but could never reach the end.
Traditionally, the sari is made out of 5 meters of material that allows for generous pleating and draping around the body and over the shoulder. The diversity of the Indian people is reflected in a variety of materials used for a sari and the way it is draped in different parts of the country. It could be made of shimmering silk or the finest gauzy cotton; a pastel-hued solid color or a riot of woven flowers. Please note: All our Sari scarves are made from VINTAGE Saris meaning they are 50+ years old and have been worn. A lot of work has gone into sourcing these textiles (from Calcutta to Goa and Chennai and many smaller places and markets in between). Imperfections which may have occurred throughout the years only add to the individuality of this item. Shawls are NOT perfect. They are, however, beautiful and unique!! Please do NOT bid if your expectations are any different. A happy customer is an informed customer.

What is Chanderi Silk? Chanderi silk from India is the result of traditional methods of hand-weaving that have been developed over the centuries, and passed down through generations. Chanderi silk is considered the fabric of choice for saris produced for royalty, due to its light-weight quality and intricate designs. The production of this textile is specific to the town of Chanderi and has been protected by the Indian government as a geographic indication. India has petitioned the World Trade Organization for recognition at the international level as well.

Please remember: the wrap was made from vintage material - vintage is NOT NEW = WORN = PRE-OWNED. Most of our exquisite textiles are 40-50+ years old, some are older. Vintage items are rarely "perfect" but these "imperfections" only add to their uniqueness and appeal. If your expectations are any different please do not bid.
