More about this item
This sale is of a seldom seen Macomb Pottery advrtising jug. This brand is often found with Red Wing as the maker but this is marked on the bottom with "Macomb Pottery Co Macomb Ill". This stoneware piece is unusual but not without flaws and some damage. The logo for "Hazel Pure Food Co" is clear, rich and dark with a look of 1870 to it but I do not think it is much earlier than 1890. The stenciling has been applied lightly at the top of the dotted circle surrounding the company name. The clear glaze has areas of case rub above and below the logo but nothing too obvious. There are chips and glaze pops around the shoulder top but all are tiny and are not obtrusive or even easily noticed. The main shortcoming is at the spout where a crack the size of a thumb is waiting to turn into a chip and two smaller chips to the top of the other side of the spout. The chip is stable and age old, but still there. I think the jug was to carry about a gallon in its 11 " x 7 " confines. A dark stain at the shoulder behind the handle the size of a quarter is also visible but may disappear on cleaning. Nothing will be done to alter the conditions that our things are found in - you get to do that. The rest of the surface is as nice as you could want it and over all the jug is a great example. If you can't get a perfect crock this one is a great second best. Double boxed, insured, U.P.S. shipping to the Continental U.S.A. is included with the price of the jug. Cost of overseas shipping with U.S.P.S. will be on a case by case basis but reasonable none the less. Do ask, though, to avoid surprises here. I will take personal check or bank type Money Order in payment only with time for funds to clear my bank before shipping. U.S.P.S. money orders will have the purchase shipped the next business day after arrival of payment. There are no returns unless there are major errors in description. There are no returns without insurance. If I have baffled you with my descriptions and you have questions, do ask. I am not a crockery expert but more likely a crock. I do, though, try to respond promptly to questions. |
