Hollywood 40s Grand fan-back clawfoot wingchair

a 1930s-40s upholstered living room wing chair, what is often called a 'fanback' or upholsterers call them channel-backs, for the pleated design which was very popular during that era. This one has a grand stature to it, much larger and more elaborate than most. The dramatic scale and extreme angle to the back, which is unusually wide, gives it a very Hollywood vintage flare that you don't find on other models. All on top of a fantastic set of ball-n-claw classical cabriole feet, beautifully carved with nice patina and original finish. I believe these are solid mahogany.

Extremely comfortable, and from a clean pet & smoke-free home. The upholstery appears to be original, in good used condition, with some minor water staining and fading, which is ordinary for this type of furniture. The potential is obvious, and we offer it here as a 'frame' for your decorating needs, to have reupholstered. However, if you're not ready to have it redone, it is in good clean enough condition to use as-found.

A custom-made slipcover in beige (not shown) from the previous owner is included, should you wish to use the chair immediately. It's not as attractive as the chair, and covers the great legs and pleated backing, but if merely for clean storage purposes, it helps to have that. It is removable and machine-washable.

DIMENSIONS: 38 high at the back, overall 39 deep, width of back 35 1/2, width of arms 32 inches, seat height approx. 18, and interior/seat depth 26 inches.
