More about this item

HARDY HIBISCUS 'MOY GRANDE' (Hibiscus grandiflorus x moscheutos 'Moy Grande')

'Moy Grande' is often called Texas Giant Hibiscus or Texas Pink Hardy Hibiscus.  This hibiscus produces the largest blooms in the hibiscus family...often reaching 12" and sometimes 16" in size.  The color is a startling rosey-pink that maintains its color even in the full, hot Texas sun.  As a landscape plant, 'Moy Grande' has few demands.  It likes a sunny, well-drained site and is hardy in USDA Zones 5 through 9.  Maintain consistent moisture from late spring through late fall for abundant blooms.

Seed Heritage

We were taught to harvest as children by our Great-grandmother Bray, a full-blooded Cherokee.  She worked most of her life among seeds, cuttings and plants that helped to feed the reservation members in the 1950's.  Our seeds are  harvested, packaged and stored as she taught us..by hand from an organic environment.   Most of our packets retain the original pods or seed casings because Grand-mother Bray believed strongly that if you 'cleaned the seed', you were separating the heart and soul of the new plant.

Like Grandmother Bray, we are generous with the number of seeds we ship..One change to our grandmother's methods are to use plastic gloves for handling and plastic bags for shipping...We hope she understands.

Harvesting Seeds

The seeds we offer are harvested from our own gardens.  We do not harvest from the wild or from state or federal lands without authorization.  Recent research through Texas A&M is suggesting that by separating the seed from the chaff or touching the seed directly, we are inadvertently impacting on the seed germination rate by the transfer of oil from our hands.  For this reason, we collect seeds using plastic gloves.  Our seeds are naturally dried in a separate area and packed into plastic bags.  We also include germination instructions for our seed sales upon your request.

Packing and Shipping Seeds

Seed packets are shipped in bubble-wrap and mailed via USPS within 7 working days of payment.

The Seed Count varies with the species, but sales are for a minimum of 25-30 seeds, often more!....shipping for seeds are on us!

Many other species are available in seeds, seedlings and shippable plants...Just send us a note to find your favorite plant!

Seed Buyer Responsibility

We trial-test our own seeds and take great care in the harvesting process since we often grow our new stock from the same seeds.   Germination and growing out are the buyer's responsibility and the success will be based on the care and cultivation taken by the buyer.  We assume no responsibility once the seed packet is received by the buyer.

We assume no responsibility for promoting invasive species and will not ship species considered Invasive by State Authorities or the USDA.

We do not recommend or accept any responsibility for species material used as a medical alternative.
