More about this item

In The World 10: Winter, Afghanistan and New York contrasts a portrait of an Afghan woman in the snow with a winter view on my 17th floor, New York City terrace. It is 18 by 24 inches, gallery wrapped on heavy duty stretchers, with painted sides; a frame is not necessary.

I hope the painting evokes connection, and maybe a strong feeling in the viewer. The caption that accompanied the photo of the woman was "Heavy snow began falling after the [2009] new year; 1300 Afghans are estimated to have died from cold this winter." I had permission to use the photo as a basis for my painting from the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC).

The painting is signed and dated on the back. I send a letter of provenance which increases the value of the work. All my artwork is copyrighted by Eleanor Gilpatrick. Copyright is nontransferable through the purchase of artwork.
