A BIT OF TRIVIA...for those of you who never heard of the label, Alfred Shaheen was one of the most prolific Hawaiian hand painted/printed textile producers and artists in the heyday of the 50's and 60's. His designs and painted textiles are legendary, drawing inspiration from both the rich Hawaiian culture, the South Pacific and Asia. His hand painted fabrics are now RARE and highly collectible pieces. And they are considered the epitome of exotic vintage Hawaiian prints, rare to come by and highly sought after.
On the official Shaheen site, there is only one other print dated from the mid 50's (in red and quite different) offered as an exclusive at over $1500...,
THE CAFTAN I AM OFFERING IS POETRY ON CANVAS.
PAINTED ON NUBBY YET LIGHT AND SOFT LINEN, THE VERTICAL GRID OF WHITE JASMIN FLOWERS AND BUDS ON DARK BROWN BRANCHES ARE DEFINITELY CREATED IN THE TRADITION OF ASIAN, JAPANESE SAKURA PAINTINGS. THE SOFT COLORS BLEND WITH THE CREAM BACKGROUND. SUBDUED ELEGANCE, LIKE A PAINTED HAI-KU POEM
THE DRESS/CAFTAN IS HOME/TAYLOR MADE FROM ONE PIECE OF SHAHEEN SIGNED FABRIC which was not cut to preserve the integrity of the fabric (can be undone and used for other purposes, wall dressing perhaps). The design isidentical on both front and back, with a simple straight, boxy almost, cut in order to preserve the entire piece of this rare fabric. In some pictures I wrapped a piece of brown silk around the waist as a sash or obi for a more Japanese look, to show you the versatility of this extraordinary piece of fabric. The silk sash in not included in thesale. The dress HAS A BOATNECK AND THE SIDES HAVE BEEN FOLDED INSIDE, TO PRESERVE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE WHOLE CANVAS OF THIS REMARKABLE PAINTING. Slits on both sides.

I ship Canada Post, usually AIR MAIL. Other shipping methods also available but not preferred...usually more expensive and subject to too much delay in the US customs.

I ONLY ship insured and to a physical person, NO SHIPPING to corporate addresses, third parties (unless it is a surprise gift) or no name destinations. Make sure your address is correct to save both of us time and frustration.

THE ITEMS ARE SHIPPED FROM CANADA and promptly! Please allow reasonable TRANSIT TIME to reach your destination, keeping in mind that nobody is in control of customs delays or your local delivery! I appreciate your patience as delays in customs are inevitable.

PICK UP the item from your local post office if it has not been delivered to your door. It is YOUR responsibility. If item is returned because it has not been picked up within the 2 weeks of its arrival, it is your responsibility to pay for the second shipping cost.

Insured ITEMS LOST OR DAMAGED IN TRANSIT will be fully reimbursed ONLY upon reimbursment from the carrier company, NOT BEFORE. I will gladly take immediate steps to report the damage or loss and offer my full support throughout the process.

NOTE! The carrier company ONLY opens lost item investigations after 45 days from the shipping date AND carriers require proof of damage or loss before processing refund. Your private phone number is required by carriers conducting the "lost item" investigation. The reimbursement of insurance for a lost item is a process, requires anytime between 7-30 days depending on the cooperation of your local post office. Once the insurance is paid, I will reimburse the Buyer through Paypal. If the item is reported as "delivered" by your local post office, further requests for refund will be denied...obviously!
