Dancing Girl Reposing Another Quality Print from Martin2001 Type of print: Steel engraving - Original vintage antique print Year of printing: 1850s Artist - Engraver - Publisher: Marshall - Artlett - Virtue and Co., London Condition: Excellent - Very good - Good - Fair Size of print in inches: 9 x 12 1/2 (1 inch = 2,54 cm) Type of paper: Thick to Heavier - Medium heavy - Thin Reverse side: Blank - With text or pictures Notes: Green 'border' around the print in the photo is a contrasting background on which the print was photographed, it is not part of the print. Description: Mr. Marshall statue was executed in marble for the Art-Union of London, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1848. The committee of the Art-Union had it reproduced in statuary porcelain, and copies of it were issued, in this material, as prizes to their subscribers. Even on the reduced scale in which it thus appears, the beauty of the design is sufficiently obvious. The adoption of the semi-nude is well calculated to display the artists skill in the modeling of the human figure, and in the arrangement of drapery, at all times a difficult task. for the sculptor to do effectively. Mr. Marshall has shown very great taste and artistic knowledge in both departments of his work; the upper part is beautifully modeled and the light garment is disposed in folds highly ornamental in character, while they do not conceal enough of the form to detract from the idea of perfect freedom when set more at liberty. The statue, as a whole, is one of great originality of conception, elegantly carried out. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Martin2001 Satisfaction Guaranteed Policy !
