Back-story: My great grandmother used to have orchids lining the cement pathway behind my childhood home on Oahu, so orchids have long been a familiar and favorite flower of mine. I always think of my Grandma when I see orchids.

I took a photo at the San Diego Gardens Building in Balboa Park ( for more info visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balboa_Park_Gardens ) and used that as a reference for this watercolor painting. It is an awesome feeling to experience botanical-wonders and then create from the experience, it certainly has a longer-lasting effect on the mind and art-making skills!
