More about this item

.MVC-006F  hanging chandelier pendant ceiling fixture, dating to the late teens, or 1920s, made of solid and stamped brass, with large globe and 4 matching shades, original porcelain sockets, elongated chain links, and gilt overpaint of the period, professionally restored with modern wire and electricals, ready for installation.

.MVC-001F The Main Fixture: This a brilliantly styled fixture, with a super smart look. It's unusual compared to most, as the style of the brass work begins to leave behind the swirly curly ornate of the gilded era, and turns to the more geometric and sleek tastes of the early art deco movement.

.MVC-016F If you compare this piece to other such brass "pan" fixtures, as they are known, you will note this one has absolutely no filigree on it. It is like those more ornate fixtures in basic form, with the standard large dish with central globe, surrounded at the four corners by hanging bell sockets with open-bottom shades. But that traditional form is smoothed over, with cleaner lines and a more geometric form. The cups hang from rings only, no ornate fancy "arms" as you more often see.

.MVC-007F Note in particular the trim to the upper part of the main pan, and the bottoms of the cups, where the brass is stamped with small vertical lines, reminiscent of an auto grill. You would almost expect to see gears or cogs traveling around it, their teeth moving across it like railroad track.

.MVC-004F Very industrial-minded, a classic deco motif. Very clean lines.

.MVC-009F We were very careful and insistent on saving the original elongated rectangular chain link, and the old over-paint, which really add to that aged mechanical flavor. It has been cleaned and sealed with a coat of lacquer for preservation.

.MVC-008F Original ceiling cap at the top, as well, with matching pattern, gives it a great presence and "complete" appearance. The circular form, the curves of the bells, cap, and main dish, play wonderfully against the rigid line, giving it that blend of the organic and the mechanical.

.MVC-002F The Globes: The center globe carries through similar patterns and shapes to the metal form, and is a superb match. It features hand-painted panels with trees on an orange sunset background.

.MVC-014F The orange backing is painted on the inside of the globe. The trees are beautifully hand-painted on the front side of the glass. When lit, this gives the little scene a realistic impressionist appearance. The glass inbetween the tree and the background paint gives the appearance of depth of space, and makes the tree look as if naturally illuminated from behind. Beautifully and thoughtfully done! .MVC-021F A perfect example of waterfall deco c.1920.

.MVC-017F The 4 outer globes are not original to the main globe, but fit the piece perfectly, with the same frosty white glass and similar lines to the globe. They are high quality reproductions, in a stylized art deco petal pattern which fits the motif of the shapes on the main globe. Their asymmetrical styling enhances the fancy-yet-streamlined waterfall-deco appeal, and adds extra interest to the piece. The angle of their shape can also be used to draw the eye inward toward the paintings on the globe, as the central focal point.
