This lovely lady with her elaborate molded blonde curls and ringlets held in place by cobalt blue ribbons is known as a parian or fancy bisque doll. Dating from the mid to late 1800s, these beautiful ladies were made in Germany. She has her original wasp-waisted cloth body with leather arms with stitched fingers. She comes in antique, and what may her original, undergarments, including a chemise with a gathered neck and short sleeves, a half slip with a delicate window pane pattern, and simple bloomers or knickers that tie at the waist. The clothing is made of fine cotton and is a beautifully tailored mixture of hand and machine stitching. She also wears wonderful old knit cotton stockings over her cloth feet. This elegant bisque belle is a cabinet size 13 inches tall. The bisque is flawless and her multiple molded curls are sharply modeled. Her serene face is delicately painted, with one stroke blonde brows, large light blue eyes with black pupils and black and red lid lines, red eye and nose dots, and full coral lips. Her very pale complexion is enhanced by her subtly blushed rosy cheeks. Her ears are pierced, but the many years have claimed the earrings. The head is free of breaks and chips and although the cloth body has some age discoloration, it is tight and sturdy. The fine kid arms are in good condition for their age, but are worn at the shoulders and elbows, and the right has been repaired at the elbow with kid patches. The repairs could be stained to match the rest of the arm and would be hidden once she is clothed in a gown or period dress. The undergarments are slightly yellowed with age. The slip has three small splits in the front along the folds, the longest one only approximately an inch long, but they are not noticeable when the doll is dress and overall the clothing is sturdy and intact.
