More about this item
This pillow cover is made from an Indonesian ikat textile and recycled denim. The textile was handwoven on the island of Bali, in the ikat method. This textile is a genuine ikat and not a print! Ikat is a labor intensive art of weaving that involves dying each strand individually, then weaving them into stunning, vibrant patters which can be recognized from island to island, village to village
This textile would have typically been used in ceremony either around the waist or as the shorter second sarong worn by the men, and/or it could have been used to carry a baby hands free.
Textiles such as these are handwoven by the women, an ancient art typically passed down from mother to daughter. Part of the proceeds for the sale of this piece goes to support Threads of Life to keep this cultural art alive. http://www.threadsoflife.com/index.asp
The denim used was rescued and recycled from a pair of jeans that had been thrown away.
The cover is 25.5" square (65cm x 65cm) and is closed with a zipper on one end. It has textile and denim on both front and back (2 different designs - see pictures). The textile is sturdy so this pillow cover can be used...and not just sit there looking nice! :) It has been machine washed and dried. I suggest washing it in cold water.
Enjoy this one of a kind blend of east and west!
