Vern Thomson for Governor Political Campaign Button, 1950s. Vern Thomson, Wisconsin's 34th Governor. 

This button is approx. 2” diameter.  It’s front and pin-back in outstanding condition.  Back side is rusty.  In "as found" condition in Briggsville, Wisconsin.  

Edge of button says, “Authorized and paid for by Republicans of Richland County. Ellis Lee, Chairman, Richland Center.”  This rings true historically as research finds Ellis Lee to have been an aide to Vern Thomson. 

From reading Wisconsin history, one learns that Vern Thomson defeated Willian Proxmire (later famous at the national level for decades) in 1956 to become the 34th Governor of the State.  In 1958, he was defeated in reelection by Gaylord Nelson, the famous Wisconsin environmentalist.
