Now this will be rather boring, however for a perfect fit it needs to be done. It is best that you have someone help you with your measurements or take an item of clothing that fits you perfectly and compare our measurements. If you are looking at purchasing pants get your favorite pants that fit you the best and use them for a model.
I will be measuring the "garments" and you will be measuring you. Because fabric is fluid, a precise measurement is difficult to guarantee, so please allow between 1/2" - 1" difference.
Bust: I measure right under the armpits from seam to seam and double the measurements. Example:Armpit to Arnpit measures 17" the bust double that would equal 34".
Shoulders: I measure across the top of the garment from shoulder seam to shoulder seam, and in the back of the garment. I usually do this measurement on jackets and blazers.
Sleeves: This measurement is taken from the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff. However, since some garments have a drop style shoulder or raglan style sleeve, then I will measure from the middle of the back near the nape of the neck, to the cuff, much like a man's shirt is measured.
Waist: For pants and skirts, I measure seam to seam then double. For shirts and dresses, I measure approximately 6-8" below the armpits then double.
Hips: For pants and skirts, I measure approximately 8-9 inches from waist then double. For shirts and dresses, I measure approximately thirteen inches below the armpit then double.
Length: For skirts, I measure the front center of the garment from the top of the waist to the bottom of the hem. For shirts and dresses, I measure from the nape of neck to the hem.
Inseam: I measure along the inside leg from the crotch seam to the bottom hem.
Rise: I measure from the crotch seam up to the top of the waist. For the back rise I measure from the crotch seam to the top of the waist. Your back rise should always be a little longer because of the manufacturer is compensating more material for your rear end.
Flare: For pants, I measure at the end of the pant leg across the opening from seam to seam. This will give you a complete idea of how wide the pant leg opening is. Remember this is a circumference measurement. If you are looking at an article of clothing in my store and it does not have the measurements, please notify me and I will get them for you. In todays global economy, our clothing is made all over the world. Most of our famous designers clothing is not made in the US. That is why measurements are so important. I am sure you have items in your closet that are two different sizes yet they both fit equally as well.
