Description of the subject depicted in the print: A fine quality lithograph print depicting one of the masterpieces exhibited at The Great London International Exposition of 1862, which featured over 28,000 exhibitors from 36 countries. It attracted about 6.1 million visitors. PRIZE medals were awarded to Messrs. Maréchal, father and son, for their stained glass windows in the International Exhibition of 1862, “ for the highest artistic and executive merit, and the employment of a new process of ornamentation.” Indeed, nothing can well be conceived more rich, harmonious, and effective than the pieces contributed by them, from which we have selected a large window, containing a representation of the blind Tobit, guided by his Wife Anna, going to meet his son, placed within an architectural composition in the Renaissance style. The effect of light and shade and colour was exceedingly fine when the light was favourable. Other very remarkable and highly artistic works by M. Maréchal were, a great window representing the Glorification of Martyrs, destined for the cathedral of Metz; the St. George window, one of three intended for Notre-Dame at Paris; and a life-size portrait of Rembrandt, very deep and striking in its ohicwoscwo. This piece belonged to the town museum of Metz, which city may well be proud of having produced so worthy and distinguished an artist. Martin2001 Satisfaction Guaranteed Policy ! TURKEY Trebizond on Black Sea - 1887 Wood Engraving

Full star smallFull star smallFull star smallFull star smallFull star small

This old engraving has substantiated and stimulated a recent interest of mine; this physical thing now hangs in front of my reading chair, and I have found the digital copy of the charming old book from which it was cut (VOYAGES AND TRAVELS OR SCENES IN MANY LANDS VOLUME
de Colange, Leo (Ed.)).
Published by E.W. Walker, Boston, MA (1887))
I recommend enjoying some of the 19th century paintings under "Trabzon in art" in commons.wikipedia., which is where I first discovered this one. In some of these it is the artists viewpoint of serious (not ) peacefulness that I especially enjoy, and now this is substantiated, in front of my reading chair.
