More about this item
The Women is one of my anti-war paintings. In 2007 I was moved to show the contrasts in the world: the modern sublime, where beauty and terror combine. This is a montage based on press photographs of Iraqi women over the years 2006-2008. Not all the press photographers' names are known to me, but two are Mohammad Adnan and Wathiq Khuzaie.
In this painting one is perhaps first caught by the beauty of the women's silhouettes, but as the viewer moves to the front of the canvas the women's faces emerge as individuals, and finally they catch one's heart by their sheer anguish.
The painting is 24 (h) x 30 (w) inches; acrylic on stretched canvas on heavy duty stretchers, with painted sides. A frame is not necessary.
The painting is signed and dated on the back. I send a letter of provenance which increases the value of the work. All my artwork is copyrighted by Eleanor Gilpatrick. Copyright is nontransferable through the purchase of artwork.
