Toast- O- Lator Model J Toaster The Aristocrat of Toasters
This is a late 1940's Toast-O-Lator, toaster. a unique appliance whose styling and engineering combines Rube Golberg with Henry Dreyfuss. It truly is one of the most unique toasters ever made! Never before has making toast been so fun. The toast "walks" through the toaster on a conveyor-like mechanism. You put bread in one side and toast comes out the other side! Magic! There is even a little viewing window (porthole shaped) on both sides so you can watch its progress. Believe me, your whole family will gather in the kitchen to watch!
I put an entire loaf of bread through it (one slice at a time) and it worked perfectly. Since the bread is always moving past the heating elements, there are no burnt spots and no light spots-- just perfectly golden toast! It is in good/fair physical condition. Both sides light up. Not the original cord.
Disclaimer. . . I don't recommend using it without having it checked by an electrician as it is vintage and I cant guarantee that it is safe to use.
It has a 'light- switch' like on/off control, and a darkness setting that slows down or speeds up the saw toothed mechanism. Made in USA on Long Island, NY. Model J.
There are chips out of the Bakelite on both sides in identical places (as seen in the photos). Also some surface scratches. Please see the pictures. If you would like to see more detailed pictures please email me.
