More about this item
THE HOBBIT facsimile dust jacket for 1966 US edition book by J.R.R. Tolkien Facsimile dust jacket for the 1966 edition of THE HOBBIT, published in 1966. This is a professionally rendered facsimile dust jacket, not price-clipped, to fit the 1966 24th printing later edition of this book. The dust jacket is printed on archival paper, with pigment inks and enclosed in a crystal clear Mylar dust jacket protector, trimmed and pre-folded to fit your book. This jacket could also be used for later editions of the book printed by Houghton Mifflin, but size may vary. The height of this book jacket is 8-3/16th inches and is from a 1966 24th printing. 1966 was Tolkien's last book revision for THE HOBBIT-now considered universally a classic work. If you have a later printing of the book, and the measurements are similar or not similar, you can email me and I will make the attempt to have the jacket fit your book, which is usually always successful, to customize it for your later printing. This service is at no additional charge. These jackets are NEVER mass produced-and produced one at a time by myself-and are extremely labor intensive to get the colors to match as closely as possible to the original, trim and fit and inspect the final product for flaws in printing. They are done by myself, out of love, for books and classic artwork and to promote the book jackets as works of art in a world getting more "Kindle-ized." I am not against Kindles and electronic book reading machines, but I am here to present to you another way of looking at the written word through the eyes of artist and bookman. The rear flap of the dust jacket, as shown in the thumbnail photo, is marked "Facsimile Dust Jacket" and with my monogram "JAM" (indicates a quality product from the John Anthony Miller Graphic Studio), and to prevent this being sold as an original jacket. I have done this in a way as to not interfer with the aesthetics of the book jacket art. I am trying to preserve the beauty of the original art, yet not let this be passed off as an original dust jacket, so I am careful where I place my wording. To 'cut out' my monogram and words stating it is facsimile would ruin the jacket. On the reverse of the jacket there is also a fixed label, signed by the artist, indicating that it is a facsimile dust jacket. Removal of the label would destroy the jacket, but it is not seen from the front. Miller's jacket work is now being collected own its merit, as people are considering these older dust jackets as works of art, especially when associated older pre-1966 classic works such as this one is. Thank you, John Anthony Miller, Artist and Bookman. A comment from a buyer of this dust jacket "The Hobbit" on eBay, Sept. 2012: John; I received the dust jacket a week ago and wanted to let you know that I am very pleased. It looks fantastic on the book. You did a great job and if there are any others I need I will let you know. Thanks again Chuck Another comment about this jacket from September 2013: Quality of the jacket is incredible! Fits my 1966 Hobbit perfect. Thank you!! Tolkien-THE HOBBIT facsimile dust jacket for 1966 book (#230991045092) Member id eternalbleedingheart" Thank you very much for you kind response to my facsimile dust jackets. These are made one by one by hand with great care. They will never be mass produced, and are made for reader and collector alike. I have received many positive comments about my work in making and printing these facsimile jackets. Here is one of them: "John's unique artistry was evident as soon as I saw The Great Gatsby dust jacket. Having seen scores of facsimile jackets, John's work is in a completely different league. The rich tonal quality of the colors is breathtaking and the weight of the paper is carefully considered. He satisfied the needs of the most demanding client, even during a personally trying time. I look forward to doing continued business with him in the future and give him my highest recommendation." Ryan Dohm, Profiles in History I am primarily an artist and take great care in the quality of my work. A number of you are buying my signed facsimile dust jackets and framing them. If you wish me to send a jacket to you unfolded, please let me know. I do all my own work, I have no employees and quality of product is what I am after. There are sometimes delays....please be patient, as I am an artist who cares what the jacket ends up looking like when you receive it. I am adding to my inventory, but it is a slow process. I have the book jacket in hand when I do the work. Thanks to ALL of you who love my work. Hopefully it will be of a much greater collector value than it is now-I also sign my work on the verso. I think it will given my past record. You can see my work in etchings and engravings on many sites on the internet, just Google. Thank you, John Anthony Miller. FREE!
